What car would you buy if money was no object? For the world's richest people this is a reality, no vehicle is out of reach. Some go for hyper supercars like the Bugatti Veyron with earth shaking engines others choose luxury cars which gracefully cruise along the road.
The World's Richest Billionaires and there Cars
Bill Gates who reigned as the world's richest man for quite a few years has a penchant for Porsche. He has owned several ranging from the 959 coupe to the 911 convertible. Actually considering his enormous wealth his choice in car is pretty modest.
Larry Ellison is another tech giant and owner of software company Oracle, he owns a nice collection of super expensive cars. He currently owns an Audi R8, Acura NSX and a Bentley Continental Flying Spur, which are all cars fit for a billionaire.
But not all ultra rich individuals want to advertise their wealth through their cars. One of the most well-known frugal billionaires is Warren Buffett; indeed his number plate even says 'Thrifty' on it. Up until 2006 he drove a Lincoln Town Car and auctioned it off on eBay to raise money for charity. Even though he is regularly described as one of the most frugal billionaires in the world he did splash out on a private jet. According to Buffett it was because he wanted to travel in more comfort, he later called it "The Indefensible".
Another billionaire that does not support extravagance is Ingvar Kamprad who is the founder of furniture behemoth IKEA. He drives a 1993 Volvo 240 GL. He also still takes the bus to work, flies economy class and regularly uses discount cards.
The Ultimate Cars
For billionaires buying the latest rich boy toys is a hobby and a competition: who can get the latest model first? In some cases the most elite car makers only make a couple of dozen of a particular model so simply getting on the waiting is an achievement. And even then buyers can sometimes have to wait a couple of years to receive the car.
In the case of the Ferrari FXX you cannot even take it home. Ferrari looks after it for you and allows you to test drive the car during private sessions. This car is for ultra rich racing enthusiast who can afford £1.5 million price tag. With only 20 being made they are very exclusive. Buying this car enables the owner to effectively become a test driver for Ferrari. Their racing technicians and engineers measure and track performance. On annual basis they also hold racing events which allow FXX owners to race all over Europe.
The best car for chauffeur driven billionaires who enjoy luxury over speed is the Maybach 62. It has reclining back seats and a variety of other luxury extras to make any long journey as comfortable as possible. The car costs over $450,000 and comes with a V-12 twin-turbo engine with over 500 brake horsepower. Celebrities such as P Diddy and Simon Cowell are the lucky owners of the Maybach 62.
It seems as time goes by the more lavish the cars are becoming. But not all billionaires are flashy some choose modest cars which you would not even take a second look at.
