Lots of people cannot tell the difference between a static website and a dynamic website, so before we begin comparing the benefits of each, let’s take a moment to familiarise ourselves with how the two different types differ from one another. It would be fair to say that unless you are a professional web developer, the difference may not be obvious. A static website is a more simplistic form of web site that is made using HTML software of Dreamweaver. These sites are very quick to put together and far less expensive to produce. Static websites are relatively easy to host as well, although once it’s gone live, they cannot be amended without the help of an experienced web design specialist.
Static Websites
Whilst static websites may have certain limitations, they are quite useful for smaller businesses with smaller initial outlay capabilities, because they cost less to develop. One obvious drawback, however, is that they can end up costing more overtime because of the maintenance costs. Additionally, if you are reliant upon a web designer to maintain your website, then you must wait until they are available before the changes can be made, which can leave your site stagnant.
Dynamic Websites
Dynamic websites have a greater degree of flexibility in comparison with their static counterpart. The content of dynamic websites is held in databases that can be entered through an administrative interface. These interfaces can be accessed from anywhere and from any personal computer. If you are looking to create a website that needs to be updated on an on-going and regular basis, then a dynamic website may be better suited as they do not require the services of a professional web design specialist, and can be amended whenever, even after they have gone live.
Deciding which website to go for
As with anything, there are positives and negatives to consider before you decide which kind of website you would like to go for. Compared with static websites, dynamic websites incur greater costs at the outset and can be more expensive to host. Over time, however, they are cheaper to run and can be updated frequently and easily, so that the content can be kept fresh and appealing. This is especially important for a website if it is to be used to generate business and relies on repeat custom.
Deciding which website to go for can be difficult, especially without prior knowledge of how websites work. Hopefully this information has provided you with enough detail to make an informed choice about the kind of site that will work best for you. Overall, both dynamic and static websites serve a purpose, and whilst one may be particularly useful in one aspect, it may not be as useful in another. Weighing up the pros and cons is essential if you are to select the website that best suits your needs.
