Ragusa is worth a visit for its monuments, for its sea and for its wonderful kitchen. But there is something more that makes this city special, i.e. its natural parks.

A city like Ragusa can offer much to its visitors. The first thing that comes to your mind when people speak about a Sicilian city is probably the sea. Sicily is an island, and it is surrounded by the sea, or better to say by seas. Wherever you go on the coasts of Sicily, you can be sure you will find a wonderful sea to immerge yourself in and to relax. And the province of Ragusa makes no exception, on the contrary: last year Marina di Ragusa was awarded as the best beach of Italy. What else comes to your mind when you think about this beautiful Italian region? Its monuments, perhaps: cities like Palermo and Catania are well-known all over the world for its monuments and buildings, but in all the Sicilian cities there are treasures to discover and interesting sites to visit. In Ragusa, just to make an example, there are many monuments that are part of the UNESCO world heritage. And what about food? In Sicily there are so many typical products and dishes to taste, that you really risk to get fat after spending a holiday in this region! Once again the city of Ragusa is an excellent example in this sense: many typical products that you can taste in this city are safeguarded by the European Union, and Ragusa is also ranked among the first thirty Italian cities in the chart of high quality food and wine. Some of the special products of this area, like honey and Modica chocolate, are famous all over the world.

Sea, art and food…what else? Nature of course! In Sicily landscapes are great, and there are many parks and natural areas that can certainly satisfy all those who like nature. In Ragusa there are many green areas where you can wander, discover new species of plants and animals or simply relax, and it is also thanks to this spaces that the cities of Sicily and Ragusa in particular are so appreciated by tourists and visitors. Among the green spaces that you can enjoy in Ragusa and surroundings, do not miss the "Giardino Ibleo" (the Hyblean garden), the Macchia Forest Natural Reserve of Irminio River and the Calaforno Forest Park. Let’s begin with the Hyblean Garden, which is one of the four main gardens of Ragusa. You can enter it through a path lined with palms and inside you can find also a monument dedicated to the dead of World War I, the Church of San Vincenzo Ferrere, the Church of San Giacomo and the Church of Capuchins. Near the garden, which overlooks the Irminio Valley, there are also the archaeological excavations of Ragusa Ibla. The Macchia Forest Natural Reserve of Irminio River was instituted in 1985 around the mouth of the Irminio River and overlooks the Mediterranean Sea. It includes both sandy shores and cliffs and is house to many species of animals and plants. Last but not least, the Calaforno Forest Park, a hill area that degrades towards the sea and that has undergone a work of reforestation that has turned a rock and dried area into a green one.
