Own a Beagle; if you carefully watch your Beagle's qualities such as the innocence in their eyes and endless supply energy coupled together, it could turn into one of the greatest joy you can enjoy everyday. But at the same time you would also have to get along with one of the greatest challenges in training such a powerhouse of a dog; and if you were to be a trainer yourself - you will have to get a lot of help in imparting such training. As outlined below you could make use of the tips for training the Beagle you own: Before you even begin with basics, it is a must to establish a good connect with your Beagle, develop a mutual trust and respect for each others behaviors and well being. Beagle as a dog possesses an individual characteristic with a high level of intelligence, sense of independence and a breed full of stubborn attitude. Most of the owners think their Beagle has its own mind. All these traits of a Beagle form the very basics of a Hunting Dog especially in Hen or Bird Hunt. Because of these rare qualities of Beagle, you need extra patience and tact in educating your Beagle and training. A consistent method of approach is highly recommended during the training to bring in healthy habits and manners to your Beagle.
As a specie, all Dogs respond well to positive approach in training, with rewards coming in at every accomplishment no matter how simple even if the are, same is the case with Beagles. In a way they are non tolerant to punishment and negative reinforcement or actually you can say a BIG NO to ill treatment. Also, Beagles respond more to rewards especially if the reward is a food. You can make use of this trait of your Beagle to speed up the training process; as such they would consume more energy if you are going at a faster rate of training and hence timely food reward would definitely help in bridging the requirement for energy.
As usual, all the above tips should come after the initial basic training of simple commands, housebreaking and potty basics etc. you can be sure to witness the enthusiasm and ability being cultivated within the dog himself; and then once a stubborn breed of Beagle is now highly receptive to training. One of the important factors you should keep in mind that Beagles are identified as slow learners of house training especially potty basics. Be ready to deal with frustration as the potty training might last for weeks if not days. Remember to keep patience and positive reinforcements as keys for a long lasting and peaceful relationship with the four legged member of your family.
One more important aspect of Beagles is that these guys are from a hunting breed, which means scent hounds. They have a very high sense of alert for a smell and are easily side tracked if they end up sensing a smell. If it happens so, it would be a painful experience for an owner especially during training to catch the attention back and away from the smell. But you can curb this if you start your Beagle training when it is a very young puppy.
