It is a well-known fact that substance abuse results in dreadful consequences in the abusers’ life. Being aware of this fact, many people are still abusing drugs and struggling to come out of this harmful habit. Do you know why they fail to recognize the severity of their condition? Read through the article to know about it in detail.

On abusing drug, the mental makeup of the person changes to a large extent. The strength of the mind is lost, resulting in loss of capacity to think and control over actions, thus making the individual ultimately become prey for the harmful substance.

Constantly crave for the drug: The very destructive feature of illicit drug or alcohol is that, it makes a person vulnerable to its use making the abuser constantly crave for the drug. This unstoppable craving for drug impairs his mind from any kind of thinking or analysis. This drive only results in prompt action of consuming the drug excessively, preventing him from having control over himself.

Feel they are in control – away from painful reality that addiction is controlling their life: Most of the drug abusers feel that they are in full control of themselves. They reject to accept reality that they are slaves to the substance. The drugs create a sense of power, energy and confidence in them, influenced by which they make themselves believe that their mind is in right condition and most importantly in total control of themselves. But interestingly, the fact is that all the above feelings are generated in the abuser only by abusing the substances excessively, which implies that he is unconsciously in control of substances, but not himself.

Unable to recognize physical and mental symptoms: Substance abusers generally fail to recognize the physical and mental effects of drug abuse. They will be under the impression that all their physical and mental activities are perfectly in line, letting the worse to happen more easily. Some symptoms of substance abuse such as tremors, hyper activity, cough, stress, forgetfulness, sleep disorders, rude behavior etc. seem to be normal for the drug abusers. They either fail to recognize or even neglect them as nothing.

Justify their habits: Trying to justify each and every bad habit of theirs is a very annoying characteristic of the abusers. When the abuser tries to justify his habits, it means that he is forcibly trying to convince himself and others that his habits are in no connection with the drug abuse. By doing this he is only aggravating the severity of the problem.

Drug abuse leads to improper thinking in the abuser, which naturally fails him to see the reality. The above mentioned characteristic behavior only aggravates the seriousness in their lives.

Our responsibility – detect drug abusing pattern and lead them back to drug free lives: It is our responsibility to prevent them from suffering from the deadly effects of the abuse.
