It's important to know what to do when you feel hopeless. Why? In at least one point in our lives, we have all felt alone and helpless. Sometimes we feel like we’ve reached a point of rock bottom where’s there’s nothing anyone can do to make the situation better.

When faced with these dark times, it’s good to remember that not everything is lost. The important thing is to make yourself feel better. Here's what to do when you feel hopeless:

Step 1: Talk It Out.

Get it all out. Find some company and just let all it all out - your worries, fears, thoughts and doubts. You can also talk about something else just to take a break and take your mind off what’s bothering you.

Don’t forget that no matter how bad things may seem, you always have friends who care about you.

Step 2: Get Moving.

Don’t just sulk on one corner and wallow in self pity. Take a walk, dance, run! Play with children or with your pets and let your imagination take you to places.

Movement can relax you, inspire you, and help you see things in a different perspective.

Step 3: Move Forward.

Here's what to do when you start to feel hopeless... start something you’ve been putting off for the longest time.

Cook, paint, make something! Accomplishing something you’ve always wanted to do (but have never gotten around to doing) helps your self-esteem. It’s also one step forward from the past.

Step 4: Help Someone Else For A Change.

Nothing feels as good as being able to help someone else. Go a little out of your way to do something nice for your family, your friends or even to strangers.

Keep in mind that other people may feel the same way you do. You never know, but these people might be lonely too, and in need of a little pick-me-up.

Knowing what to do when you feel hopeless can also help other people get over their hopelessness too.

Step 5: Get In Touch With Your Senses.

Get lost in good music and fill yourself with delicious food. Go to different places where you can take in the beauty of the sights, the sounds and the people. Let all these inspire and spark something new inside you.

We all feel down every now and then - it’s unavoidable. Knowing what to do when you feel hopeless can help you deal with yourself more efficiently and ensure that you do not engage in destructive behavior.
