Over the years, many showering companies haves observed a change in lifestyle as people move towards the sophisticated shower enclosure and accompanied shower trays. Seen as a 'must have' item in any bathrooms throughout the UK, all shower enclosures require an elegant shower tray at its base. The trend in shower trays has seen an even further movement from the more bulky standard shower tray to low profile slim-line versions of the product giving your bathroom a designer minimalistic look.
A shower tray is designed to catch the falling water from the shower and comes in a variety of makes like stone, acrylic and metal alloys. The two types of shower trays that can be installed are low levelled and high levelled. While the low level shower trays are useful under floor board waste drain systems, the high levelled ones keep retain more water whilst showering. There are also a variety of shower tray shapes available which includes rectangular, square and quadrants.
When installing a shower tray on the floor it is essential that shower tray is installed level. Usually the bottoms of shower trays are sloped or curved to help assist the flow and direction of water down the drain. If the tray is not fitted level, you may affect this inherent slope. Using a spirit level to constantly check your levels can help combat any problems.
When fitting a shower tray, the base of the tray needs to be fused to the floor using adhesive. Applying adhesive, which can be waterproof silicone or dry mortar, all over the bottom of the tray will help give the base stability.
Waterproofing the shower tray is highly important. During installation it is essential that a waterproof seal is created between the shower tray and the floor and walls that it's in contact with. Leaking moist and water out of the shower tray can potentially cause problems in the bathroom and other rooms of the house. Using waterproof sealant around the fittings, fixtures and edges can help prevent water penetrating out.
The dimensions of shower tray varies and marks out the out the space and size of the fitted enclosure. Most modern studio apartments are fitted with showers enclosures that usually compromise 800mm shower trays to save space. However, it is recommended that medium sized bathrooms should be fitted with 1000mm shower trays. There are many online companies that offer a complete range of shower trays from simple designs to luxury designs so enhance the look, value and feel of your bathroom by taking the plunge and installing one.
