One of the most important things to think about while designing a dental office, is the look of it. You may not think that this is important, and it is often overlooked. While thinking of the design for your dental care clinic, you must remember to make it look like a healthy and stress free environment. As a dentist looking to open a new clinic, your main concerns probably have to do with things actually pertaining to dental care. This is always a good thing, don't get me wrong. We would all be happy to know that out dentist is concentrated on the best way to perform a root canal, teeth whitening, and many other dental treatments. You must not, however, overlook the design. Another thing to remember is location. You will want a place that will leave you plenty of room. You do not want to work in a cramped area, and your patients will not feel comfortable in a small, clostrophobic space. You may think about putting in an area for drinks, where your waiting mothers can enjoy a cup of coffee while they read their favorite magazine. Your dentistry clinic should emit health, usability, and comfort.
You will want your dental office to be welcoming to your patients. New patients will judge not only the clinic, but you as the dentist when they first walk into your office. This first impression will last them for a long time. While deciding on a pain color for the office walls, you should make an effort to pick lighter colors. This will help keep the environment light and friendly. People, especially kids will get a little nervous or tense in a dentist office. You will want to do all you can to counteract this. Bright colors, and works of art will definitely calm the nerves.
Most of the time a patient spends in your dental clinic will be in the waiting room. The lighting and color of this room should promote a happy and helpful feel. Whether your patient is there for a root canal or a simple whitening, you want them to feel comfortable and try to keep them from worrying about the treatments they have come for. If you are going to treat children, it is a great idea to have pleny of toys for them in the waiting room. It is difficult to work on kids' teeth, because they are so energetic. Providing them toys will help them get their wiggles out before the dentistry work commences. For the adults coming to your clinic, they will enjoy a few magazines to read while they wait. You may provide magazines pertaining to cosmetic dentistry, dental care for kids, and other dentist related topics. You will also want to include some high fashion and popular trend magazines. These will really lighten a mother's mood and put her at ease. Another great thing to add in your waiting room is a fish tank. This will add a natural feel to the room while providing entertainment and fun for the children. You can never go wrong with a fish tank. Especially if these children have seen a kids' movie called Finding Nemo.
To go with the natural feel that the fish tank will provide, you may think about placing a few plants to the room. This will keep the air crisp and fresh, while adding more happy colors. You could also have some fun with the vases you use. These can help with the theme of the room, or they can just be crazy. You could use a vase shaped like teeth for example. You could fill your office with only plants that go with the season. A great office environment is the very definition of great dental care. Once you have your dental care treatments down, the biggest thing is to concentrate on the feel of the whole dentist office.
Now you know what to look for while designing your office.
