The ability to communicate effectively with your clients, prospective business partners or friends is something that everyone longs for as effective communication is key to forming and strengthening bonds.

That being the case, it has prompted many people to take up English language courses in a bid to master the language to avoid relying on translators who only add to the cost of doing business. For tourists, learning the native languages of the country you plan to visit can be exciting and add value to the tour.

The first step to learning a new language is understanding why you want to learn it in the first place. It is at this point where you need to have a clear definition of what sort of course will meet your needs as since there are different modules offered. Taking English as an example, the common ones are:

  1. General English: It is designed to give the learner the basics of the language focusing on issues to do with pronunciations, grammar and vocabulary as well as aspects of the British culture and Britain life in general. These courses are particularly suitable for visitors to Britain from non English speaking countries

  2. Intensive and semi intensive courses: The person taking the course is allowed to choose the intensity and frequency of study that fits their time and grasp of the language. This module has the potential to offer a lot of knowledge in a short period and is particularly important looking to have a better understanding of the language in a short period.

  3. IELTS exam course offered by Cambridge: This combines general English with specified skills of the language needed for academic purposes. The course is a widely accepted qualification in the UK, USA, the New Zealand, Australia and a majority of English speaking countries.

  4. Business related courses: These are aimed at those who intend to study the English language for business purposes.

Whatever your reason for learning English is, you will need to join an accredited school that teaches English. There are many English language schools which offer remote online classes making it easy to access them and convenient for the aspiring student. To some small extent, the choice of a school will depend on whether you want to learn English UK or American English.
