Austin has come a long way in growth. In 1850, this capital city had a population of only 629 residents. Nearly two centuries later, more people are pleased to call Austin home. This is obvious in its growth. In 20 years, Austin has grown from 465,622 residents to 790,390. This makes Austin the 14th most populous city in the United States.
Austin is a diverse city welcoming to all ethnicities. The 2010 Census details the following racial demographics for Austin:
