For those bass anglers out there reeling fish after fish into their bass boat (yes, you know who you are) cooking up a nice fish dinner at the end of the day is what it’s all about. Particularly when you’re bass fishing in the southeast, (my favorite is bass fishing in Virginia), there’s a tendency to take those fish and fry them up! And why not? It’s a quick, easy, and oh-so-tasty way to satisfy your hunger. For those of you who are trying to cut back on the fried food, here’s a mouth-watering alternative that’s just as good as using the fryer.

Marinated Grilled Striped Bass Source:"Marinated Grilled Striped Bass" Recipe. Food.com. 2004 22 Sept., 2011 2 June The first step in preparing this delicious bass dinner is to scan over the ingredients list and make sure you have all the fundamental components to make the meal. There’s nothing worse than getting ready to cook and realizing you’re missing a key ingredient. Fuel is important, too - don’t forget the propane or charcoal! Ingredients:

  • 2 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 limes, zest of
  • ½ cup cilantro, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • salt
  • cracked black pepper, to taste
  • 4 (8 ounce) striped bass, fillets

Directions: Prep Time: 5 minutes Total Time:25 minutes

  • Combine olive oil, lime juice, lime zest, cilantro and garlic in a large shallow bowl.

  • Add salt and pepper to taste.

  • With the tip of a paring knife, make three diagonal slits through the skin of each filet.

  • Place the fish in the marinade and flip to coat both sides of the fish.

  • Cover and place in refrigerator for at least one hour.

  • Light a charcoal grill or turn a gas grill to medium high.

  • Place the bass on the grill and cook for about 8 minutes on each side, or until the fish flakes easy.

Serves 4 This recipe goes well with several leftover side dishes that you may have in your refrigerator. Dishes such as coleslaw, mash potatoes, or a healthy salad will transfer your bass fish into the center of a three course meal. Now while you’re sitting in your bass boat waiting for a catch you can sit back and daydream about the feast to come.
