Literally thousands of parenting tip magazines and articles have been published in the last several years. The subject matter is so comprehensive that it would take years to read all of the material. Don't think for a minute that you will have to be seated for hours reading this material to understand how to be a good parent. If you have just the slightest bit of common sense, you can easily do a good job of parenting and take care of your child. The worst you can expect when raising your children is to handle the changes of the world itself which can be very traumatic. Your children will end up just fine as long as you are positive and provide a helping hand along the way.
Cell phones are commonplace now, even with younger children, and part of our everyday lives. iPhone's and cell phones are very useful when it comes to assisting our children. Of course there is immense pressure for children, especially teens, to have their own phone. Children can be very happy with a cell phone, as long as there is a balance between using it and getting what needs to be accomplished done. These types of technological devices, though useful, can distract your kids and eventually lead to them doing poorly on their schoolwork. Another important parenting responsibility is to ensure their children practice safe phone usage for security reasons.
There really isn't anything else more frustrating that knowing your kid is telling lies. Because there are a number of degrees to this behavior it's immensely important that you work out how severe it really is. In addition to this you may also want to try and work out where this behavior came from. Often times there are unhealthy influences on your children such as at school. Reminding your child about the importance of being honest, particularly when you know for certain that your child is telling you a lie, is very crucial. This can certainly be an annoying experience for all parents. You might possibly want to have a consultation with a counselor if you feel the circumstances require it.
One lesson that is always difficult to impart is how to be a responsible person. Clearly, this is an area that would be best served to begin early in life. We are aware that parents tend to fall into certain categories when it comes to parenting behavior. Regardless of how good of a teacher you are, whatever category you are in, you just have to try. It all begins with giving them something they have to be responsible for. By finding a way to nurture them toward being responsible, which includes some penalties for failure, you will ease them into this skill set. Responsibility is not mastered in a day, but over many weeks or months and with a gentle hand.
Graduating from high school is a very exciting and special time for both the student and the parents. While graduation is often a reason for celebration, if your child has chosen to leave home for whatever reason, this may also be a difficult time for parents. These feelings are normal for both the parent and the teen. Being a good parent isn't always easy. Be supportive of your child's choices even if you don't always agree with them.
Unfortunately many times parenting problems will also have an effect on the marriage life and not only your child.
