Cosmetic Surgery has injected itself into society over the last 20 years and is now extremely common and acceptable among the general public. The whole idea of looking young and feeling young has spread across the globe and people are always looking for the latest procedures and best practices to maintain their youthful look.

The "Vampire Face Lift" is the one of the more recent procedures to come available to the public with people asking what it actually is and how is it different to other procedures? During this article we will try and answer as many of those questions as possible.

The "Vampire Face Lift" as it is most commonly known is a procedure called Selphyl. Selphyl is a non surgical cosmetic treatment that can be performed in about 20 minutes. This treatment de-ages the skin which makes the patient look younger and healthier.

Selphyl is injectable in this procedure therefore to prepare this blood is drawn from the patients arm and placed in a centrifuge. This separates the platelets from the red blood cells. These platelets are then mixed with a fibrin mixture and injected into the face of the patient in the area they wish. Usually to see instant results the surgeon overfills the area by 20% but the overfill wears off in about a day.

The patient has to wait about 2-3 weeks later to see the final result as the fibrin mixture takes time to build up. The Vampire Face Lift lasts about a year and a half. It rejuvenates the client’s skin and increases volume allowing the skin to reverse the signs of ageing naturally.

A common question which usually comes up is "why use Selphyl instead of other fillers?" Well, other injectable fillers that are mainstream are Restylane, Perlane and Juvederm. These are all artificial cosmetic fillers unlike Selphyl which is natural. Selphyl makes the skin physiologically younger while Juvederm for instance gives the skin the appearance of looking younger. The procedure is also a lot cheaper than Botox.

The main advantages of using Selphyl are;

  • It’s a facelift minus the surgery.

  • Lasts for longer than other injectable fillers.

  • Can be used in any area of the body.

  • Naturally increases skin volume.

  • Unisex.

  • It’s all natural.

Now that we have explained the "Vampire Face Lift" and have given advantages we will now discuss the drawbacks and scepticisms that people have about the procedure.

The treatment has been around for over 2 years now but Selphyl has not been proven to stimulate collagen growth which the patient so dearly wants. The procedure has not been cleared by the FDA although many surgeons claim that it has.

Therefore people are paying over £1000 to have this treatment performed with no proven results. Selphyl is also used in conjunction with another facial treatment thus the patient cannot be sure whether it is actually the Selphyl doing the work or the other treatment.

A lot more research has to be done into the "Vampire Face Lift" but it has remained popular but we are yet to see whether it will be the next big advance in cosmetic surgery.
