The Remington 700 is one of the top rifles in existence. It is the basis for many of the subsequent models such as the 721 and 722 series. The Remington Varmint is one of the newest additions to the long line of bolt action rifles. The rifle itself is continuously improved and adding newer and more advanced technologies to the make up of the rifle. One of the better cartridges for the Remington 700 Varmint is the .308 cartridges.

The 700 Remington series itself has had a long standing tradition of excellence. According to Remington about 90% of police sharp shooters in the United States use a rifle that is based on the Remington 700 SPS Varmint. In fact, the 700 Varmint makes up a good number of the overseas police force rifles as well. The barrels on the Remington Varmint guns tend to be thicker to allow for greater shot accuracy and lower recoil.

There are two primary makes of the Rem 700 Varmint (also referred to as the 700P). The original 700 Varmint has a 26" heavy barrel. The smaller version of the Remington 700 is the Light Tactical Rifle. This version has a 20" fluted heavy barrel. Both versions of the have an optional Tactical Weapons System package. This Remington Varmint comes with telescopic sights as well as a bipod and a carrying case. Both of these rifles are capable of below one minute of angle accuracy upon purchase if they are using regulation ammunition and a good scope.

The Remington 700 Varmint also comes in a less expensive model for shooters and hunters who seek the appearance of a Government Issue firearm without the higher price tag. The Remington SPS Varmint (Special Purpose Synthetic) is the less expensive version of the Remington Varmint. The original Remington 700 has an HS Precision stock (the stock has a block of aluminum to help stabilize the rifle) while the Remington SPS Varmint does not. The Remington 700 SPS Varmint also has two versions, the 26" heavy barrel and the smaller Tactical version with the 20" fluted barrel.

With their tradition of excellence, Remington is trusted as a gun provider to military, civilian police forces and private owners alike. The Remington 700P is made heavier than the precursor M24 Sniper rifle and the M40 series of rifles. The Remington Varmint has a heavier and thicker barrel. This allows for the added accuracy previously mentioned. The handling of the rifle is also positively affected by this heaviness. The Remington 700 Varmint loaded with .308 Winchester cartridges increases the accuracy a great deal to the already impressive under minute of angle accuracy. With the added aluminum block built into the stock of the rifle the Remington Varmint is one of the best and most accurate guns on the market.
