I'm sure many of you will agree that getting stressed out leaves you with a very bad mood, Which in turn blocks your productivity because it causes you to lose focus and it also blocks your creativity or the ability to think rationally. You always end up getting angry about the small things when you're stressed which also leads to some petty fights with a family member/co-worker/persons you are always with.
If you agree to all of that then you surely would also agree that it is a serious problem that needs to be resolved. With that said, here is a list of tips on what you should do to combat or relieve stress.
First is you should eat healthy foods. Many foods have an impact on our mood, health and over all well-being. Foods, high in fats tend to elevate your blood pressure and cholesterol level. While refined carbohydrates, processed foods, foods high in sugar and caffeine, can cause a sudden and dramatic spike in energy followed by a dramatic drop. Be sure you are eating a balanced diet including the 5 fruits and/or vegetables a day, lean protein, and make sure to drink plenty of water as well. If you can't tolerate eating fruits and veggies, then consider buying a juicer or food processor if you don't already have one and turn those solid foods you don't want to eat into liquid for you to drink. Surely this will make it a lot easier for you to ingest any healthy food you just can't take eating.
Second tip is to exercise on a regular basis. Exercise is one of the best natural highs available. That's because it releases endorphins which are "happy" chemicals in the brain. This is a natural way to release tension, increase energy and most certainly improve your mood. Not to mention you will stay toned and improve your overall physical condition. For adults, an added bonus of exercising regularly is that it can also lead to an improved sex life.
The next one is to get sufficient rest on a consistent basis. Adults need at least 6 hours but the ideal is to have 7-8 hours of sleep each NIGHT. If you aren't getting a minimum of six hours you will most probably be not able to work or perform tasks optimally. And notice the capitalized night? It's because you really should sleep at night as your cells regenerate during the night time and it will help if you are resting when they are regenerating. Also, if you're using caffeine in place of sleep, then you should really stop doing so. Caffeine causes peaks and valleys in energy levels and can alter your moods if your body is deprived.
Another good tip in combating stress is deep breathing. When you feel stress welling up, you should take a deep breath, hold it for as long as you can and then let it out slowly. Do this several times. Then work on making your inhalation and exhalation of equal length. Doing this simple routine will slow down your heart rate and send a biological signal to your brain that you are not in crisis. You can do the routine until you feel physically calm.
With these tips, you can prevent or battle with any stressful situation pretty easily.
