Ever emulated your lady boss or colleague and wonder how they can look impressive with little effort? You can, too! One of the secrets to dressing for success lies in you! (Duh!) I mean your body shape. Want to dress for success? The secret lies in dressing according to your body shape.

"Dress according to my Body shape? Ok..."

The general categories of body shapes are apple, pear and hourglass. There are other categories but we shall cover these 3 basic ones.

If you are top-heavy (asset-rich at the top) with a slimmer waist and legs, you are likely to be an apple. If you are bottom-heavy (round hips) with a obvious slim waist, you are likely to be pear-shaped. Hourglass needs no explanation.

For ladies with an apple shape body, avoid wearing tight-fitting tops. Embrace dark coloured tops and show off your legs. The attention should on your lower-half - your slender limbs. One way you can do this is opt for dresses with shorter hems (caution: the length should still be suitable for office wear!) and pair it with a matching and smart-looking dark-coloured blazer to "close off" attention to the top and direct it to the bottom.

For ladies with a pear shaped body, avoid tight-fitting jeans and pants. Yes they may be trendy but it wouldn't help catching up with the trend if it doesn't flatter you. The attention should go to your top-half. One way you can do this is via colours - opt for bright or white tops. You can also make use of details such as applique and ruffles to help capture and retain the attention at the top. Your bottoms (skirt or trousers) should be kept simple and plain with minimal details in a less-striking colour. One suggestion is to pair a striking white blazer with a black dress.

If you are almost proportionate top and bottom with a slimmer waist, you are an hourglass. Now, many people would confuse hourglass with pear or perhaps they are just being humble or negative about themselves. If your hips are wider than your shoulder then you are pear-shaped. If your hips are about the same width as your shoulder, then you are an hour glass. Congratulations if you're an hourglass because it should be easy for you to wear any style and cutting. Since you don't have much to conceal when dressing, dress according to your personality! If you have a fun and vibrant personality flaunt it with a purple skirt or a electric blue top.

Regardless of your body shape, embrace it and love yourself! That's the first key to looking good. If you feel good, you will look good too! Ladies with higher self-esteem tends to look more attractive because they are comfortable with themselves. They admit they may not be perfect but they love the way they are, anyway.
