Are desktop computers obsolete?

It seems that in today's fast moving world people are more interested in getting the top rated laptops rather than the best desktop computers. Many claim that laptops are so much better than desktops, but is this really the case? But for most people out there a desktop usually represents the better option.
Unless it's refurbished or second hand a laptop can cost a lot of money – many that most people can't afford to spend. For most college students, getting a new high performance laptop is usually out of the question. If you're looking to buy a good desktop, you should know that it can cost less then half the price of a laptop with the same specs and performance.
Desktop computers are good all rounders and can take a lot of punishment without breaking down. Laptops on the other hand are more sensitive when it comes to shock, heat, dust and power fluctuations. So if you're not a busy CEO that needs to take his business on the road, buying a desktop computer might save you a lot of trouble.
Desktops are also easier to upgrade and a lot of operations (such as adding more RAM memory) can be done by yourself at home thus allowing you to save money and time. All desktop parts are cheaper then their laptop counterparts. Buying a new hard drive for a laptop is going to cost you almost half as much as buying one for a desktop.
Laptop repairs are also costly and if the damage is extensive, most cases are hopeless. Desktops on the other hand are easy to mend at home with minimal knowledge about computers or with instructions read on the Internet.
Warranty is another thing to consider. Most desktops come with bigger warranties then laptops so if you plan on keeping the computer for a longer period of time, a desktop might be the better option.
Screen size is also an important factor. And since most laptops have 15 inch screens, movie fans should look at desktops instead. Laptops with bigger screens are usually more expensive, heavier and less portable.
So, as a conclusion, I would say that desktop computers are in no way obsolete and I don't see them disappearing any time soon.
