Keeping the PC at Optimum Speed

The first question that comes to mind is why I need to keep my PC at optimum speed level when it seems to be working fine? This is quite presumptive, as most times we just gauge our computer by the task we perform on it or by its overall utility to us without actually comparing its overall performance with maybe another computer. A simple comparison can be your own dilemma and the difficulty of your own work output if the limited space of your table was totally cluttered. The same happens to the computer, when it has just too much of everything that actually diminishes its optimum speed, and this can be specifically felt when using the internet. To clear out table, we need to put some things in the right place and totally discard others, and theoretically this applies to the PC too but in different ways, technically and literally. Let us quickly check through some of these measures to ensure your PC is at optimum speed.

First we need to check the available space in the hard drive, especially the ‘C’ drive. You may want to do some file / folder ‘deletions’ here. Never over-clutter this drive because it also controls the operating system of your PC. If you are a spontaneous downloader of every ‘free’ software, then time you did control that urge and let go what is not in use, and may never be used. It’s there because it was free, and it is affecting the optimum speed of your PC. Do however maintain the anti-spam and anti-virus software, as they actually help speed up the computer and keep it safe by filtering the unwanted spam and bad-ware. But, check the memory space they take up as some can be real heavy. Select the effective and light ones; otherwise you’re back to square one on the clutter. You should, in fact, consider downloading a free Spy-ware, if your PC is not protected against these personal information collectors. Many like to make their computer look unique, so they download the most miserable wallpaper or screensaver which too contributes in the slowing of the optimum speed. Keep the PC minus the fancies, and the natural backdrop is certainly the best. When was the last time you ‘formatted’ your PC? If you don’t recall, then do it now. If you did it last month, then hold on for another five. Formatting the PC every month will only harm, and not help. You may however, need to clean the registry and the hard disk, on maybe a weekly basis, including running the error checking utility. And mind you, these are applications in your PC, so don’t go searching for downloads. If you are using the Windows Vista, you already have the ReadyBoost that helps speed up your PC system. And yes, when you notice your PC is not doing the optimum speed while on net and when downloading or opening a folder, then do the Disk Fragmentation and check the results.

Remember a simple equation. If your PC is not working at the optimum speed, then that applies to you too.
