To make the most of your home brewing, invest in a brew stand. It’s a one time, low cost investment, for an infinite reward in homemade beer.
If you have been brewing your own beer, then you most likely have heard people talk of a brew stand before, or may even have one of your own already. In this article, we will be addressing the 3 tier brew stand, and provide information on it to help you take your brewing up a notch.
Just as it is with every other aspect in home brewing, you have options when it comes to choosing a brew sculpture, or stand. There is the 2 tier stand which requires a pump to complete the process. Due to having to use a pump, you will always need electricity to brew your own beer with this type of stand. While you are only utilizing 2 tiers, you are also limiting the portability and where this particular brew stand can be used.
The 3 tier brew stand works with gravity and electricity is not necessary, allowing for portability and making this brewing sculpture probably the most popular one around. The 3 tier stand is also less costly, in both the purchase and the maintenance, as it doesn’t use up power resources. You can then turn that savings into an investment in either more equipment, or ingredients and kits. Save money where you can, so you are able to splurge where it matters, right?
Understanding the 3 Tier System Process
As you can probably guess, the 3 tier brew stand works with 3 all grain brewing vessels, at varying heights to best utilize the gravity theory. The top container on the stand is called the hot liquor tank (HLT), which is well positioned to best drain the brew into the next vessel, called the mash/lauter tun (MLT). The MLT is for the infusion process, or blending of ingredients and flavors. The MLT then drains into the boil kettle (BK), and that name is self-explanatory. Those are the 3 tiers, and the process of the popular 3 tier brew stand. As you can see it is not complicated at all, nor expensive.
Two of the most popular designs of the 3 tier brew stand are the step design, as well as the center pole design. A step formation is the basic idea for the step design, but it takes up some space with its bulky design. If space is a factor for you, then you might want to consider the center pole design, as it is a brew stand which is strategically designed to take up less space.
No matter which brew sculpture you choose to go with, it will certainly help you to create some wonderful and tasty home brew for yourself, or to share with others. You can create a variety of great tasting home brews, and in the end spend less on a batch of beer than you would by buying it in a retail store. It’s no wonder why this hobby is soaring and the home brew community is expanding with amazing growth. The bottom line is, get yourself a good quality brew stand to watch your home brewing skills soar to the next level.
