Social work is a very rewarding, but at the same time, a very challenging career as well. It benefits people by solving their problems that they have to face in their everyday lives. Don't think that becoming a social worker does not require any kind of education. Education is a must, if you want to become a professional social worker. A bachelor's degree is the basic requirement for intern positions. But when you register for any such program, make certain that you enrol in one that is recognized by the Council on Social Work Education USA. At present there are more than four hundred recognized programs all across the country. Many of the mentioned programs call for experience in the respective field.
There are many universities in the USA that do not ask for any kind of experience. Such universities also offer paid internships. For those who avail these opportunities, not only do their chances of meeting potential employers increase manifold, it also adds to their experience and gives them something to list on their résumé post graduation.
The ones who are interested in getting a position of greater responsibility, such as the likes of the post of case management, they should aim for the master's instead of just the bachelor's degree. Like the bachelor's program, make certain that it is recognized like the bachelors program from the Council on, Social Work Education. The master's degree also requires field work.
Once you have got your degree, you must be licensed, as per the laws of all individual states, before you start practicing. You will get all the requisite information from the state board. Basically, you will have to work for a couple of years under a social worker who has a license. This is a must, in order to qualify for the aforementioned licensing exam.
Once you take the exam, you can specialize in several different categories. Consider your interests and ultimate career goals before enrolling in a program to specialize in the category that best suits you. At the end of the day no matter what area of social work you specialize in, know that it will be a source of eternal bliss and contentment for you.
