The area known as the Upper East Side in Manhattan is pretty much defined as between East 59th Street and East 97th Street between the East River and Central Park. This area is known for classic New York apartment buildings. Think straight-laced doormen and marble foyers when you think of the Upper East Side apartments. This type of thinking might get you imagining moldy old apartments and dark, scary staircases. There probably are still some of those in the area, but many of these classic Manhattan apartment buildings have been bought by investment and development companies. The interiors of many have been completely modernized so they feel new while maintaining the high ceilings, crown moldings, and great New York City neighborhood of quintessential Manhattan.
The more expensive apartments are usually those bordering Central Park on Fifth Avenue. There isn't much that says 'New York living' like an apartment on Fifth Avenue and a quick walk across the street to the most famous city park in the United States. More affordable Upper East Side apartments will normally be on the interior streets of the area, like East 65th Street with its internationally diverse restaurants and cafes nearby.
The Upper East Side is known for museums, art galleries, and, of course, proximity to Central Park and all of its attractions. Upper East Side apartments are available close to the park, close to all the iconic attractions and businesses of midtown, and much more. There is an abundance of public transportation, including subways, cabs, and buses to help you get anywhere you need to. However, most necessary items are within walking distance when you live in on the Upper East Side.
If you are looking to move to the Big Apple, it’s a good idea to take a look at where you will be working and where you want to play. Upper East Side apartments offer access to many offices and major corporations, as well as great neighborhoods to live and relax in. When moving from a region outside of the New York City metropolitan area, you should prepare yourself for smaller spaces and higher rents, as Manhattan is extremely crowded (over eight million residents) and more expensive to live in than any other city in the country. However, working directly with a building management company can help you avoid brokerage fees and save thousands of dollars when you move to New York City.
