Highlands Ranch is an unincorporated residential neighborhood in Douglas County, Colorado. It is one of the most heavily populated unincorporated locations in the US with a population of 96,713 as of 2010. To support this large number of people, its local government established several outdoor recreational facilities. With 23 parks, over 70 miles of tracks and 2,200 acres of pure and wild open spaces, your Highlands Ranch real estate is inevitably within reach from parks for people with active lifestyle and asserted wildlife.
This community never runs out of parks even if there are several residents in it. There are a total of 22 parks existing in it, and with this number 85% of its homes are located within one quarter mile of a park, open space or trail. This means that in every one thousand citizen there are 25 acres of park available. To add up, there are two skate parks, an inline hockey rink outside of the building, four dog off-leash locations, eight illuminated public tennis courts, three illuminated ball fields, an historic park and three neighborhood gardens.
From the well-known community parks found around the neighborhood to the bigger public parks that provide different facilities, there are parks for a wide range of out-of-door activities. The Backcountry Wilderness Area of Highlands Ranch is 8,200 acres of park kept and maintained by the HRCA (Highlands Ranch Community Association). The Backcountry is where you will find huge assortment of wildlife, natural plants, and birds all at the Backyard. The HRCA has 11 miles of exclusive, natural open tracks and there are 12 miles more of the public Douglas County Trail through the Backcountry.
The Big Dry Creek at Atherton Way has picnic shelters and tables with barbeque grill, playground, rest rooms, shelters, basketball court and multi-purpose field. The park's parking space has 26 spaces, wherein 6 of them are assigned for public use. There are no entry fees collected in this park and is great for the whole family.
The Cheese Ranch Historic Park is ideal for your scenery experience. It has gazing ventures such as bird watching, historic site touring through the historic windmill, all-natural tracks for viewing and communal planting. It also has tracks for mountain and road cycling. The park also offers camping activities and is very accessible for those with physical disabilities. Parking is also open along the road.
Civic Green Park is chosen by many citizens, individuals or families alike, who love parks. The park is situated at the center of Highlands Ranch near the crossing of Broadway and Highlands Ranch Parkway. During the summer, the Park is saturated with live music, family movies, dance shows, aquatic activities for children such as swimming at the wading pool, playing at the fountain, and other special events.
The last but not the least park is the Fly'n B Park. It is found at 2710 Plaza Drive which is near from the well known High Line Canal Trail and is covered in the shade of large trees. The park highlights its catch and release fishing pond, a picnic shelter, two parking lots and a restroom. As previously mentioned, you are greeted with large trees upon arrival at the park's parking area.
