Leaflet distribution is the process of delivering leaflets around a certain catchment area. Whether this a brochure, takeaway menu, informative fold out or leaflet a distribution company will do it all.
So how do you chose a good leaflet distribution company rather than a bad one.
Well most leaflet distribution companies will offer various types of distribution according to your needs and budget.
Solo Distribution
This is the delivery method where the leaflet, brochure or magazine is delivered on its own without any other leaflets. You may be able to choose the day the printed material day out, as most distribution companies will avoid certain days the free publications are delivered. Obviously this method is the most expensive, as delivery costs cannot be shared. This is a targeted method however, the most productive and more likely to have an ROI,
Shared Distribution
Shared Distribution methods are where the work may be shared with other publications going out on the same day. The company should avoid delivering material in the same industry however; you are still fighting for the customers attention. Targeting specific areas can be difficult as all customer who you are sharing distribution with will agree the areas covered.
Costs Of Leaflet Distribution
The costs of leaflet distribution is usually done per so many. Obviously the more you get delivered the more savings you can make. Try and barter down the company if you can, especially if it is going to be repeat business. If your on a tight budget as discussed above, it might be better to consider a shared distribution method compared to the solo method. If your publication is going out with two or three other leaflets, this can greatly bring down the costs as the same manpower can deliver the leaflets.
Another thing to consider is that leaflet distribution often have great contacts with printing companies. Taking out the printing via the distribution company can get you great savings and they will often have a great working relationship with picking up and distributing the material.
Delivery Methods
So now you have picked your leaflet, brochure or magazine, you’ve agreed a price, what else do you need to know? One thing to arrange is what day the publication will go out. You want to avoid days where weekly free ad’s are sent out as your material will end up being lost and possibly thrown in the bin without ever being looked at.
Once you have agreed your day you also need to look at the areas you wish to cover. Remember, what is the catchment areas of your business? Who is the ideal customer to need your goods or services? Will they need a lot of disposable income? Are they young families? Once you have answered all these questions you can then plot which postcodes to target.
The next question is where the leaflets will be picked up from. Will they be picked up direct from the printing company or your business promises?. And FINALLY…requesting a map of the areas delivered too can help you quality control that the leaflets have actually been delivered.
