Each Australian State and Territory maintains an independent code of practice for first aid in the workplace.
Each demands varying levels of first aid-trained employees, first aid incident recording, continuing certification and workplace assessment.
Keeping up to date with these evolving requirements can be difficult and time consuming. Systems of paperwork and filing need to be created, project management software purchased and First Aider staff need to be hired and upskilled on a regular basis.
An alternative to this costly and time-consuming activity is to appoint a managed training company with specific skills and modules to manage your first aid training.
Alsco (alscotraining.com.au) is one such highly-regarded Australian service.
Alsco’s courses include:
HLTFA301B – Apply First Aid
This course teaches the fundamental principles, knowledge and skills to enable the First Aider to provide emergency care for injuries and illnesses in the workplace.
HLTFA301B – Apply First Aid (Flexible Mode of delivery)
This course is done either by completing a workbook or an online version of Alsco's Senior First Aid (Workplace Level 2) course, and provides the fundamental principles, knowledge and skills to enable the First Aider to provide emergency care for injuries and illnesses, in the workplace.
HLTFA301B – Apply First Aid Refresher
The course allows the First Aider to refresh the knowledge and skills acquired in the course conducted three years previously. Participants will be updated on any changes to first aid techniques that may have been implemented since their last certification.
PUAOPE010C – Operate an Automated External Defibrillator
This unit covers the competency required to operate an automated external defibrillator (AED) to defibrillate a casualty in an emergency. It complies with Australian Resuscitation Guidelines for use of an AED and State and Territory Standards.
HLTCPR201A – Perform CPR
This Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course is designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain breathing and circulation in an adult, child or infant following cardiac arrest. Content is based on Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines 2010.
Courses can be conducted on your premises or at one of our convenient training venues.
Alsco also offers Emergency Scenario Training to test your First Aiders skills levels on site.
As an Alsco managed first aid training customer, you can view trainee participant results, see training projections and expiry dates for each participant online at Alsco's secure web-hosted database.
You also receive email reminders when First Aider refresher training is due, as well as for any scheduled courses.
Customers also receive Alsco's Training Guarantee, which ensures you always have the right number of trained employees, regardless of staff resignations. You pay a set fee for an agreed number of qualified staff for the term of the contract (three years). For example, if you have paid for 10 first aiders to be trained and three leave within the three year contract period, Alsco will train their replacements free of charge.
If your company is interested in a managed first aid training solution, call 1300 651 706 for further information or to book an on-site survey with one of our consultants.
