Studying online to acquire a social work degree comes with numerous benefits, but with its share of cons as well. Primarily, it can be very beneficial for students trying to pursue a degree in social welfare and that too from a globally accredited institution yet at some point, the student may face some inhibitions pre and post completion as well. The success rate depends a lot on the ability and interest of the student as per skills, learning stimulation and motivation, and also their working environment. Thus, any student who wishes to actually gain something from an online degree in human and social well-being needs to be very focused and determined.
The syllabus designed by course tutors is quite easy to absorb, and students can take their time understanding the initial steps of social work. This may include introductions such as social development, organizational welfare, awareness in different social areas like ethnicity, culture, education, health and the like. Essays are written online, and it depends on the student whether he/she wishes to attend to simple read the lectures. Also, students have some flexibility at hand, particularly if they are pursuing a full-time or part-time job. Thus, they are able to opt for evening classes as well, or attend those that are scheduled for the weekends.
A global benefit of studying online is that students are able to access their online portal from anywhere. Hence, if you're traveling, all you need is Internet access to read notes, interact with other fellows or simply attend an ongoing lecture. On the other hand, despite the many pros of an online studying program, it is important to take into account some drawbacks of it as well. For example, there are modules like practicing for human services, direct interaction and practice with families and applying action research that require real-time presence of the student.
Also, when it comes to on campus studying, there are tutors and peers to guide you yet for an online program, you have to be motivated enough to study on your own and organize your schedule in a very effective manner. An online social work degree is best if you are a motivated professional with some prior experience, are able to meet deadlines and cope with a self-drafted schedule, have ample experience but need a degree only to formalize your academics. These are just some of the things to consider before choosing an online program for your education.
