With the seasons slowly changing from summer to winter, now is a great time to head outdoors for some Autumn Family Weekend Activities at London Wetland Centre.

The centre is running autumnal weekends until Sunday October 16th, with visitors invited to take a refreshing walk around the reserve as the seasons change.

Exciting changes include different birds arriving on the lakes and pools, including colourful ducks such as shovelers and teals.

Fruit and berries sprout from the hedgerows, giving the centre a colourful wintry feel.

From 10.30 until 11.00 GMT a Storytelling: Harvest Birds session takes place. Designed for children aged five and under, this tale explains how birds can help with the harvest and how kids can make a bird of their own.

Fun with plant dyes and presses can be had from 11.15 until 12.15 GMT. Attendees will discover more about their own plants and can also make their own natural dyes to paint with.

Children fascinated by pond life will love the pond dipping session where they can comb the water with a net to find out what animals live inside. This is running from 12.30 until 13.00 GMT, with another session taking place from 15.30 to 16.00 GMT.

At 14.00 GMT, a fascinating foraging walk is running. This educates visitors on the free foods and traditional herbal remedies that can be uncovered by foraging.

This is not all of the autumnal fun planned at the Wetlife Centre, with a series of Halloween events also taking place.

On the Weekend of the 22nd to the 23rd of October, a Bats and Spiders Weekend is taking place.

Visitors will learn why bats and spiders do not deserve their fearsome reputation.

They can meet rescued bats and learn about the habitats and behaviour of the fascinating creatures.

A fantastic collection of arachnids from around the world is also on display, including a range of British spiders and tarantulas.

Those who want to find out even more about spiders can head to the Talk at 12.00 GMT to learn how to identify common British types.

On Halloween half term, the centre is hosting a week of family fun.

Kids will be delighted with the story about Anansi the spider, and can then create their own spider.

Nature crafts and pond dipping are also taking place, before an interactive show about wetland wildlife entitled Yuk! is run from 14.00 until 14.45 GMT.

Furthermore, the Wetland centre is also putting on Wold Tales puppet shows on October 26th, 27th and 29th.

Based on the tales of Little Red Riding Hood and the Three Little Pigs, the puppet show offers a fun and spooky twist on the traditional fairytales.

Rounding off the Halloween fun is a party on Friday October 28th, which is taking place between 16.30 and 19.15 GMT.

Kids are invited to join in the Yuk! interactive show, experience a spooky bat walk, attempt fire lighting and hear some spooky stories.

Dressing up is also encouraged, with a prize for the best costume.

Children must be accompanied by an adult and should bring their own snacks.
