Information Technology Infrastructure Library commonly known by its abbreviation ITIL is a set of best practices designed and developed to be used across the board by any organization for IT services management. It was designed and published by the Office of Government Commerce of the United Kingdom. There were 30 volumes in the original publication which have been reduced to 5 volumes in 2011.

You can buy and read the publications but that is not enough to qualify you as an ITIL certified professional. As with other IT certifications you can also get trained and certified in ITIL. Getting training from an unauthorized institute will be useless as you will not be allowed to take and of the ITIL exams, therefore you must seek out and get enrolled in an authorized ITIL training institute.

Getting certifications in ITIL is quite tough and there are four examinations that you will have to take to get the Master certification. The four levels of certification are; basic, intermediate, expert and master. There are a number of organizations also recognize the Intermediate certification. As there are so many fields within information technology and at the intermediate level you need to decide which area of ITIL you want to become an expert in. you can select one or more modules to get certifications in at the intermediate level.
