Let’s face it—the world is all about multi-tasking. These days it’s common to see people mowing the lawn and listening to music while talking to their neighbor and emailing their boss from their PDA. For those of us who like to enjoy a cigar every few hours, this could prove a problem. How can we focus on our wonderful stogies if our brains are too busy performing other tasks? Well, rather than smoke your entire set of premium (read: expensive) cigars, let’s talk about what I like to call "everyday cigars"—the ones you can enjoy, but won’t feel guilty for not giving them your undivided attention.

You get what you pay for when it comes to cigars (well, most of the time). But you can certainly find some fantastic stogies that are affordable and tasty if you look in the right place. It may be true that there tends to be a positive correlation between price and complexity, but there are enough outliers out there to merit a look. Rather than blindly pick a cheap cigar just because of the price point, how about you pick one for that AND its flavor? Here are a few cigars to get started with. I hope they’ll make your experience sifting through the garbage even just a little easier.

• Cu-Avana Toro – Hand-rolled beauty by Manuel Quesada. It is medium in body with more than a bit of a coffee flavor supported by hints of spice and citrus; very tasty! They also burn rather nicely and are very well constructed. These are always a go-to cigar for me when I head out to the golf course. At $3 each, these guys are a bargain!

• Oliva Flor de Oliva – Pretty mild, but definitely not boring. The name should clue you in to the promising nature of these cigars. Oliva’s have a pretty complex flavor palate and are just slightly more than $2 a piece. Put a few of these guys in your humidor and you’ll certainly be better off.

• Rocky Patel Vintage 2nds – Let’s clarify what makes a "second" a "second." There isn’t a crazy blend-change that makes one cigar taste like wet garbage and another taste like spices. The only issue with these 2nds is their appearance. Rocky Patel quality control workers occasionally see stogies with blemishes or inconsistencies in look. These cigars are pulled aside and labeled a "2nd." Still believe there’s a difference? Well, I’d be willing to bet that if you were blindfolded and smoked a few of each kind, you wouldn’t know which one was which. But this is the best part—the only reason they’re discounted is because of their appearance! They are therefore the perfect everyday smoking cigar because they’re still packed with flavor—and at $2.50 each, you can thank me later.

• Padilla Hybrid – Smooth draw with nice flavor profiles. This mild-to-medium-bodied cigar has a great burn and is thus the perfect on-the-go stogie. Padilla usually makes great stogies, and this one is definitely not a let-down! The Hybrid is even more of a triumph as it is priced at $2 each. With a pretty quick smoking time it is both fulfilling and free of guilt.

• Perdomo Slow Aged 826 – Earthy tones with a noticeable taste of spice. Medium in body, it is quite complex when you consider the price is at less than 3 bucks a cigar! These are a wonderful addition to Nick Perdomo’s great line of cigars.

Warning—this list should only serve as a starting point and should not be looked at as the first step into replacing premium cigars. A premium stogie is certainly worth the price occasionally, but they shouldn’t be smoked all the time as most people can’t afford it (if you can, however, more power to you). This list is purely informative for those of you looking for good quality cigars at value prices. If you hate trial and error, then you’ll love this list because it does all the work for you! Try some of these guys out and you’ll definitely have a smile on your face, for more than one reason!
