A Look At Aviator Sunglasses

Today’s accessories branch out into so many different categories. There are jewelry, gloves, handbags, hats, belts, scarves, wigs, watches, sunglasses, pins, stockings, bow ties, leg warmers, leggings, neckties, suspenders, and tights. Why do we depend on these to help complete or compliment our clothes? I mean, don’t we spend enough on the clothes themselves? Why don’t they look great without an accessory? Well, for some reason, they do not and therefore a whole industry is fueled by the necessity to complete an already pricey, yet stylish outfit. I think initially these accessories were created for a logical purpose and somehow overtime it has become a fashion trend. I mean, belts & suspenders hold your pants up, hats keep your head warm, scarves, gloves, stockings, leg warmers, leggings and tights keep you warm, pins could hold a shirt closed, wigs I understand, handbags hold your wallet and items, neckties and bow ties make it a suit, but I have a bit of curiosity about sunglasses, more specifically aviator sunglasses. Why did this specific accessory become a trend?
I understand the purpose of sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun and ultra violet rays, but couldn’t a hat do that? Did people just get tired of putting their hand up to cover their eyes? Maybe they couldn’t drive with the sun beating down into their eyes? However, aviator sunglasses are a whole other potato. They do not look like your average pair of sunglasses. They have a special "look" to them, that you can take one look at them and instantly know what kind of glasses they are. How many other kinds of sunglasses do you know that do that? Me, I know I am not a fashion guru, but I could not call out a type of sunglass just by looking at them. Someone in the marketing department definitely did a great job when it came to aviator sunglasses. I mean, weren’t they created for airline pilots or aviators to help them see well while they were flying? I think they blocked out a good amount of light and stayed on the aviator’s face. Granted the military definitely enjoyed this great and functional accessory, but for me, it wasn’t until Top Gun came out that they became a hit with the rest of the world. Who could forget Tom Cruise or Val Kilmer or Anthony Edwards, or as I like to always think of him as Goose, playing volleyball in the sweltering heat in their aviator sunglasses. After this movie, it seems like all the men in the world wanted to be these pilots. They had to own a pair of aviator sunglasses and even women began wearing them too. I think, I even own a pair. Now, do I really need a pair of sunglasses made for pilots? No, I could probably purchase some other kind of sunglasses, but yet I went with these. Do you understand why I was so curious about them now? Maybe you are too!
