Gone are the days when managing a conference or a wedding party was done by the most active people of the company or the family. The most energetic lot used to organize everything in the event and all bricks and bouquets – as the outcome of the event were received by them. However, time has changed; you can no longer on inexperienced people even though they are energetic to organize an event. You need a solution to manage events.

With the multiplicity of events like festivals, conferences, grand birthday or wedding parties, event management started in a natural way. It was thought by many enterprising persons and companies that to organize such events on a large scale with many complexities involved in managing events could well be termed as project management applicable to such events where many variables could be involved.

Brand promotion is a common reason for an event to be organized by a company. Such events are required to be planned meticulously and executed with finesse. It is also necessary to make a post-event analysis to ensure that a proper return on the investment is ensured.

Event management today is an industry by itself. There are many companies engaged in event planning in Adelaide and other Australian cities. From a small birthday party to an international conference attended by foreign dignitaries, from a college dance-meet to a gigantic event like the Olympics or from a wedding party to a brand promotion event – everything comes under event planning. For the business community, irrespective of the product or the service offered or the nature of the size of the market, planning for an event is of utmost importance for everyone. It is quite common these days for corporate houses to organize hospitality events like award ceremonies, concerts fashion shows and even film premiers.

Today, there are several courses in universities for event management. Certificates and degrees are awarded on successful completion of these management courses. The types of events covered are multifarious and of different dimensions. Based on objective and purpose, events can be classified in four broad categories namely cultural events (art, heritage, religious etc.), leisure events (recreational, concert, sports, cultural meet) personal (birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, funerals) and organizational (political, commercial, sales, expo, product launch etc.). It is the last category which is done on a grand scale. For event planning Adelaide or any other Australian city, there are companies who can at short notice, organize a party or a small event at competitive rates. Some of the companies even go to the length of donating 10% of their profit to a charity of the client’s choice.

The event manager with his team often acts behind the scene of activity. In some cases, the event manager gets involved in brand building, communication, and marketing strategy. The event manager has to design the whole event, make arrangement for audio-visual presentation, logistics, budgeting and even service to clients. It is truly a multi-dimensional task in which there are no distinctly identifiable jobs which can be pre-identified.
