Pool filter cartridges have stepped into the shoes of traditional filters and have went on to become the preferred choice of pool owners owing to their low maintenance, high performance and cost-effectiveness.

Pool filters play a very important role in keeping your pool's water sparkling clear, clean and fresh. However, you would surely prefer installing a pool filter that besides offering high level of performance also is also reasonably priced. Pool filter cartridges have become the preferred choice of pool owners owing to their low-maintenance as well as high efficiency.

So, if your traditional pool filters have started bothering you then switch over to pool filter cartridges. A perfect alternative to traditional pool filters, cartridge pool filters are used for above ground pools. The cleaning process is easier as the hassle of backwashing involved in other filters is completely eliminated.

Moreover, wastage is reduced as the cartridge present inside the filtering unit can be replaced with a new one when the previous one becomes dilapidated. So, instead of purchasing an entirely new filtration unit, filter cartridges could be replaced with a new one.

Since, cleaning and maintenance is easy, proper maintenance of your cartridge filters and that too on a regular basis is essential to avoid any sort of in-efficiency. The first thing that you need to take care of is the pump. Make sure that the pump operates at low pressure as the cartridge filters run at a relatively low pressure.

When the pool pump's pressure gauge indicates a pressure of 8-10 psi then the cartridge pool filter is functioning at a normal pressure. When the pressure gauge indicates a pressure above 10 psi, then your cartridge requires cleaning as it might have completely weighed down with debris.

To clean the cartridge filter, the cartridge element should be taken out of the filtration unit and then thoroughly washed with water by making use of a garden hose held at an angle of 45 degree. Dry the filter in bright sunlight and then brush off the remaining dirt from the pleats.

Many a time’s contaminants like oil etc released by swimmers are not easily cleaned off from the cartridge and so to get rid of such contaminants the cartridge filter should be dipped in cleansing solution overnight. Finally, the filter should be rinsed off with water thoroughly.

Once the cleaning process is over, your filter cartridge is ready for re-installation. In fact, the process of installation is very simple.

The market is flooded with affordable and high quality pool filters of diverse models and brands like Pentair, Unicel etc. So, do your homework properly before you purchase a pool filter for your swimming pool or spa.
