What is Autism?
There are over 500,000 people that suffer from autism in the UK or 1 in 100. The figure of 2 million people is the figure that represents those that are affected by it every single day. Those parents who have children that are subjects of autism may find it hard to understand, but they need to recognise that they are not alone when it comes to this topic. A child who is an autism sufferer, will be fully capable of growing up and having the chance of living a relatively normal childhood. Having said this, it is vitally important that you proceed to consult with the experts to realise what services are available to help you.
Autism is a progressive disorder affecting neural development. It is characterised by impairing social interaction, communication and repetitive behaviour. The information processing in the brain is affected, which is by altering how the nerve cells connect and organise information. Those who suffer from autism will also suffer from other things apart from the usual feats of social interaction for example. This can include over or under sensitivity to sounds, touch, smells, tastes, lights and colours.
Specialist Education and Autism
In general, it is very important to develop a child’s education. Although a child may suffer from autism, getting an education is something that they will still be able to do. Having and receiving the right support in the earlier years, can pay dividends and make a large difference to children with autism. Education for a child who has autism can be difficult, especially as the process of learning can be a very difficult challenge for them.
There are more specialist schools located in the UK, as it is becoming more widely recognised. These schools have the principle aim to educate your child. Those who are in charge will be experienced people who understand autism and the needs of those who suffer. It will allow autism sufferers the chance of a good education where they will be given a fair chance.
In addition to this, these specialist schools will not be operated by teachers. They will be run by specially trained teachers, residential carers, learning support assistants and therapists, who will have a close relationship with parents. This is in order to achieve the best possible outcomes for the development of the child and give them a chance in education.
With autism, it is not uncommon for child sufferers to have different levels. Having said this, it is very important that the people, who are in charge of the education process to those with autism, should be fully aware as to how to react to the different children that attend. Speaking through experience, it is suggested that there will be a specific strategy in place for each child. There will be an outline for each child, which in turn will assure that the child receives the maximum benefit coming from their education.
These autism sufferers have the tendency to lack confidence. By attending a specialist school, where the principle aim is to focus on the needs of the child with autism, they can take part in various activities that will assist them with interacting with people and help them further in life. These activities can assist in helping them to become more confident in their abilities as well as to respond to those scenarios, which are all part of growing up in today’s society.
Having an education is something that will be helping people to develop their interpersonal skills and knowledge. A person with autism is no different and with these specialist schools, they will have a specialist education suited to them. It will be an advantage for their future development, along with the care, attention and understanding that the school provides. This will not be given in a normal school here the aim is to provide pupils with a curriculum based education. The idea has been proven in many cases as this educational system does not work for autistic children.
There are many sufferers of autism in the UK. The best way is to spot the signs early e.g. difficulty in relating to others or making friends. Specialist autism schools are for children with autism, providing them with a solid foundation and framework for the benefit of their future developments. It is to help their learning i.e adapting to real life situations.
