The history of sunglasses goes all the way back to Roman times. Sunglasses are a special kind of glasses that are nowadays designed in a way to provide shade to the eyes from bright sunlight that makes it difficult to see. The Sunglasses protect eyes from harmful ultraviolet rays (UVA, UVB) and make your eyes feel softer, lighter and comfort your eyes with soothing effect. The lenses of sunglasses are heavily coated in different colors so the world seems to become a little less bright, which can be a relief on very sunny days and the color of lenses also add value to the style. You can choose the color of lenses as per your requirement, trend, occasion and/or matching with the color tone of your skin. Nowadays the sunglasses are especially popular in the summer season and on beaches.

However, protection from bright sunlight is not the only concern for wearing sunglasses. Sunglasses nowadays are considered as fashion accessory that gives the personality a style. Besides addition of style people may also wear them to hide their eyes from others when they are upset, or on drugs, having eye-patches or don’t want people to see their eyes for some other reason. As in the case of celebrities who don’t want their photos to be taken, sunglasses provide a relief. Sunglasses have boasted the confidence of people who are visually impaired.

Warning:

If you wear sunglasses at a place where there is no bright sunlight, you may not properly be able to see your footsteps and can get injured incase you fall, people may also react badly towards you, they may laugh or stare at you by thinking that you are just doing it because you are a ‘poser’ who wants to make a fashion statement.

Medically Recommended:

Nowadays It is possible to get your prescription lenses fitted in the sunglasses that will not only correct your eyesight/vision like normal eyeglasses but will also protect your eyes from the sun at the same time. However the prescribed sunglasses can be expensive.

The medical reason to wearing sunglasses is that it reduces the risk of eye cancers and cataracts by protecting your eyes from the sun’s ultraviolet rays.

All cheaper models do not give protection from sun’s harmful UV rays so whenever buying a pair of sunglasses, make sure to check that they offer 100% protection. Because the sunglasses cause your pupils to widen as they do in the dark to ease in watching and broaden the eye vision, cheap sunglasses on the contrary uses lenses that are not fully coated and cause huge amounts of UV radiation to enter your eyes, therefore doing much more harm than good.
