In today’s society, gadgets have become integral to our lives - and now more than ever we are surrounded by them. Whether in a coffee shop or walking down the street you frequently see people on their iPhone, iPad, iPod, BlackBerry or laptop. We have become heavily dependent on these gadgets - and in no way is that a bad thing - but it is a surprise how poorly we look after these very expensive items! Below, you will find a few tips to look after your gadgets and give them the protection they need.
Soft Cases
Investing in a case for your iPad or laptop is a really good idea to keep your gadget safe, especially because the portable nature of these gadgets puts them at greater risk of being damaged. When you buy a case, you should look for a few factors. The case should be made from high-density foam, which is proven to be the leading material in gadget protection – light, malleable and soft it has a high protection index. The case should also be fit to your gadget, the tighter it is, the more protection it will give.
Be Careful
It might sound like common sense but things like eating and drinking around your gadgets is something that should be avoided if possible. Using laptops in coffee shops is common place, but be careful not to spill your coffee on your expensive kit! Another option might be to use a USB keyword if you own an iPad or another touch screen device - spill a drink on that and you’re only looking at a twenty pound replacement compared to over six hundred pounds to replace your iPad.
The Battery
Battery lifespan is always an issue especially with old laptops, but also with the latest gadgets such as iPhones and iPads. So, can anything be done to help increase the battery life? With laptops, keep your laptop plugged in as much as you can – putting less strain on the battery means it will last longer when it’s not plugged in. With iPads and iPhones, keep your unit up-to-date with the latest version of software – Apple is always trying to find ways in the programming to reduce battery output. Also, if you turn 3G, location services and Wi-Fi off, or turn the brightness down, you will cut down on battery consumption.
Insurance
As I’ve stated sometimes accidents can’t be avoided. So, having gadget insurance might be of interest if you want to fully protect your gadgets. With iPhones costing up to five hundred pounds and iPads up to seven hundred pounds and laptops and Macbooks costing up to a grand or so, it may be worth thinking about insurance. The typical household has 5,128 pounds worth of gadgets [research provided by AXA home insurance]. Certain insurance companies have gadget insurance policies protecting from theft, accidental and malicious damage.
With all of this in mind, there is plenty you can do to protect your gadgets. With a combination of being safe and smart, you are less likely to be without your favourite possession for long.
