- "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." - John3:16
John 3:16 is probably the most widely quoted verse in the Bible. It is considered to be an embodiment of all dogma of traditional Christian faith. This verse tells us of God's relationship with humankind and the way of salvation. God's love was so great that He sacrificed His only Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross on our behalf. It gives assurance of eternal life for those who believe in Him.
- "My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth." - 1 John 3:10-24
The three simple words we like to hear from the person dear to us is, "I love you." However, these words are meaningless if we don't show our love by the way we act or treat our loved ones. This is a fact in all relationships - we must show our love. We must do more than just saying we love or we care about people who are sick, needy, lonely, or depressed.
- "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind." - Mark 12:30
Spiritual maturity and success does not come from knowing about biblical facts and principles or going to church every Sunday to hear God's words. Rather, it comes from something else - love. Loving one another as God loves us is one way of extending our relationship to God and then to others.
- "Now this I do for the gospel's sake, that I may be partaker of it with you." - 1 Corinthians 9:23
Paul, the apostle showed his intense desire to help the Corinthians by being a model of love and faith in God. He did all this without expecting anything in return or any monetary consideration. In our lives, loving others can also be expressed by helping without expecting compensation and reward. We should have that same willingness that Paul had where love is the ultimate motivation, not compensation.
- "Do you love Me more than these?" - John 21:15
When Jesus asked Peter, "Do you love Me?", Peter said, "Sure, Lord, You know I do!" Upon hearing this, Jesus was not satisfied with his answer and so He replied, "Peter, if you love me, care for those I care for. Peter, if you love me, follow Me." Our Lord also longs for us to say, "I love you," to Him and we must back our words with our action.
- "When I consider...the moon and the stars,...what is man that You are mindful of him." - Psalm 8:3-4
If you ask an astronomer how big the universe is, he will tell you that it is indefinite and contains trillions of stars spread across the vastness of space. For us human beings, this may seem incomprehensible but this does not need to shake our faith. Instead, this kind of thing only increases our awe like in Psalm 8 where the author marvels at the creation of God and mankind's smallness then praises Him for His greatness. The immensity of God's creation is a constant reminder of the immensity of His love for us.
