What is ADHD and how does it affect children?

If you are wondering what is ADHD in children, well the simplest answer would be that it is a disorder in which a children just can't keep still and can't focus on what they are doing. They are always on the move. Do not expect a physician to immediately prescribe medication when you bring your ADHD child to them. More often than not, they would only recommend a treatment methodology if the kid has displayed symptoms of ADHD (that's short for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) for at least half a year.

The classic ADHD symptoms are: daydreaming, inability to complete given tasks, focus is way off, confusion reigns, very inattentive, and poor in following directions.

ADHD is broadly divided into three types: inattentive, hyperactive and implusive. Doctors will first have to categorize the disorder before making their next move because for each category, the treatment methods are different.

At present, experts still do not know the exact cause of ADHD in children, but they believed it could be triggered by the following factors: undetected seizures, emotional trauma, brain damage due to a medical disorder, mother smoking while pregnant, environmental issues, genetic inheritance, and anxiety due to depression.

Treatment methods are mostly focused on addressing the neurological disorder or learning disabilities.

Treatment is mostly through the use of medication, but some doctors prefer to prescribe a balanced diet or using psychological approaches. Take note that there have been cases where a lack of vitamins has resulted in minor to moderate symptoms of ADHD.

For those who prefer to use herbs to treat ADHD, well, the most common one used is Hyoscyamus, a therapeutic herb which can work wonders on those who are hyperactive or have very disruptive tendencies. But before taking herbal remedies, it is best to have a word with your doctor.

Most parents have to climb walls when their child is ADHD inflicted, but with perseverance, you should be able to master the techniques to control their wayward behaviors to a certain extent. Whatever it is, most children with ADHD are very brilliant, so do provide them the opportunity to express themselves.

ADHD can be contained to a large degree, if you give it enough time and exercise a lot of patience. ADHD children deserves to be treated well, so give them all the love you can give, and see them prosper.
