In How Visitors See Your Web Design Part I, the need to integrate stylistic web design elements with functional and contextual elements was discussed relative to search engine bots. Search engine bots review the page loading time of a website, the navigational elements, the meta data, keywords and other on-page data, and the links you provide to other sites and to interior pages and posts of your site. These are the main items that a search bot "sees" when it visits your site, and not surprisingly they are quite similar to the items that a human visitor sees. Understanding the differences and similarities is critical to integrate all of these elements in your web design.
The first thing that most human visitors to your web page will look for is the relevance of the topic to their search query or reference. This means that the human eye is naturally going to be drawn to the header, title and any page or image descriptions. Relevance is one of the most important parts of your website - if your page isn't relative to what your user is looking for, then they will likely click away to another site and increase your bounce rate. The higher your bounce rate is, the less relevant your page is viewed as being and in most cases the page will be ranked accordingly.
Once a human visitor has confirmed that the page is relevant, most people notice the design and layout next. If the site is appealing and the layout of the web design is easy to look at and understand, then the chances improve that the user will spend more time on the site and investigate more thoroughly the products, services or information contained within. This is where the aesthetic appeal of a web design project can become important, as everything from color to image positioning can influence a person to buy or convert to some other actionable or sale.
Human visitors take significant notice of the navigability of a site. The faster the pages load and the more concise and easy to use the navigation system, the more likely it is that the user will click deeper into the site, thus improving the page's user stats and increasing the chances that a sale or conversion will occur.
Finally, the most important thing that your web design must incorporate in order to be successful is high quality content. It is content that makes the internet what it is today: videos, articles, blogs, forum posts, reviews, songs, press releases, news stories, letters, editorials, and more are all what drives the world wide web. Human visitors to your site are going to be looking for relevant, high quality content that can be easily found and readily consumed. Web designs that do not consider this critical component are destined to fail.
Whether a search bot or a human visitor, the elements needed as part of a fully integrated web design must allow these visitors to quickly access and assess your web page and determine its credibility and relevance. Unfortunately, few web design companies are equipped to bring this to the table. To find one that is, use the links below now.
