When we chat to people at the baby shows about our baby blanket product, we often discuss when they are due to have their baby or how old their baby is. We then work out which size they need and the months of the year they will be able to use the product before they need to get the next size up. I always find it amazing when people say they are having a summer baby in June or July and they probably won’t need to use a baby blanket until Oct/ Nov, so they want to get the next size up or they don’t actually think they will get any use out of our product at all!

It is really funny how people have an image in their heads that in Britain we have 3 or 4 months of lovely hot sunny weather in the summer when their baby will be out in their pram, with no form of baby blanket required. When you talk to them about the reality of British weather and requirements of a baby, they start to remember that their ideas about summer aren’t really a reality. I also say that even on a really hot day, the sun might go behind a cloud and become chilly or if you are out later in the evening and the temperature cools, the benefits of our product is that you don’t have to think about it, it’s always there.

Our sales definitely slow down as spring approaches and I think is due to exactly the same issues. Customers buying them for themselves as well as ones who buy them as gifts think of them as winter products when really they are an all year product. You can just pick the right weight for the time of year and be ready for anything!

Once customers actually have their baby, they realise that even in summer they will need to use some form of baby blanket and they often come back to us and buy because they realised that the product will still be really useful for them even in the warmer weather. Many times through a week in the summer it may change from a hot sunny day with clear skies, to a cloudy day with a cool breeze or even a rainy cold day.

Of course in the winter months our product is much more obvious and people know that they will definitely need to wrap their baby up warm. It’s much easier to explain how they will be able to use the product and how it will benefit them versus using a standard baby blanket. They can understand that going in and out of shops or the car means that our product really comes into use because you can control their temperature so easily by wrapping and unwrapping. This can really be helpful if they have older children who need to be dropped off and picked up from school or nursery.

I have children myself and I write about products and tips which are useful to parents, they cover making life less fuss and more fun, saving time and getting out and about with young babies and children. Some of my articles are interesting but they try to have a bit of fun and laughter about them.
