Always Be Clear On Your Website Marketing Message

When you write content for your website you normally are trying to get some kind of message across to your visitors.

And you usually want your visitors to take a certain action.

For example you may want them to buy your product online or contact you to make use of your service or even subscribe to your blog.

But in order to do this you need a clear message.

What does this mean? Well a common problem I see with website is they put their message in the content but then they place other content which confuses the viewer.

Examples of this type of content are a load of marketing hype or perhaps they go into too much detail trying to explain every part of their product.

This often leaves the visitor more confused than before they visited the website. And the result of this is that visitor will probably not take your desired action.

You should do the following;

  • When you make your website think ahead of how each page should be written. Ask yourself what message should each page try to get across?

  • Write this message in a simple manner without resorting to marketing hype then show that page to a friend.

  • Make sure you do not explain what the page is about to your friend. Ask the friend to honestly give their honest opinion of the page and ask them to explain what they think your message is.

  • From their feedback you should be able to know where you need to change the content or add additional content to make your message clear.

  • Once you are at this stage you can start adding photos and even video to help the message even further.

For example if you are selling a product, make a simple video of someone using the product while explaining what they are doing.

Videos can be incredibly useful for explaining a product or process to make use of this media. And if you are worried about getting a video made, do not worry as they are much easier to make than you think.

Just make sure the room that you are in when filming is brightly lit and free from background sounds.

Place your video camera on a stand and start filming.

Don’t worry about the person (or you if you want to film yourself explaining the product) making mistakes. Just continue filming as you can edit out the mistakes later.

There are plenty free video editors which are very easy to use such as the Microsoft Movie Maker. Most of this program is simple to use and is just a case of drag and drop and choosing various video effects.

Try adding ‘Calls to Action’ to the video which are little reminders for the viewer to do something. A simple example is a message such as ‘Click the button below to buy this product’ for example.

Once you have made your video you can either host it on your website but I usually recommend people to upload it to a video sharing website such as YouTube. This way you can gain additional marketing via the video sharing website.
