There are several considerations you need to make, before going to have skin tags removed. If we speak of skin tags, we are referring to those tiny growths that often appear on parts of the skin where there are creases. The nature of skin tags being benign and painless has caused many, including doctors, to dismiss them and not treat them as they would other medical emergencies. The question as to the removal of the skin tags would have to be made by the person who has them. In the event that skin irritation ensues due to the presence of the skin tags, it could be reason enough for doctors to recommend their removal. At the end of the day, the person who will make the decision on skin tag removal would be the patient himself. Often, the deciding factor would be for cosmetic reasons.

Before having those skin tags removed, you must first see if the effect they cause to your overall appearance is pervasive. Remember, skin tags are actually very small. Many people don't even notice them. When we meet people, they don't really look very closely. For a person to notice these types of tags, he or she has to be paying extremely close attention (and not very many people do so). But if we're talking about larger skin tags that appear in conspicuous body parts, then they would definitely be noticed. But once people do notice you have skin tags, that does not instantly mean that you are less attractive. If the skin tags are really cramping your style and are having a negative effect on your looks as well as making you feel depressed, then there is no reason why you should not have them removed.

Next, you have to ask yourself this question: will the benefit you will gain from having the skin tags removed be worth the amount of money you are going to spend on it? You have to recall that this is something you may be called upon to pay with your own funds, even if you happen to have medical insurance coverage. After all, this treatment will likely fall under cosmetic procedures, which is often excluded from insurance coverages. But, considering all the distress and pains that these skin tags are causing, you might deem the money you will spend to be well worth it if it means you will be skin tag-free in the end.

The last consideration would be your tolerance of pain. Remember that the treatments could be quite painful. See if the pain will be worth it having the skin tags removed. Of course, you'd probably be using anesthetics throughout the procedure. But the numbing effect of the anesthesia will only be momentary. You will feel pain once it wears off. You could, however, decide to still go ahead and have the skin tags removed if you think the presence of the skin tags is more psychologically tormenting than the actual physical pain you will have to endure during the procedure.
