There are many benefits to using a masticating juicer vs. centrifugal. First, the differences in the two are like night and day. A centrifugal juicer will basically use a very fast spinning action to shred your produce and separate the juice, then pull it through a mesh screen and out the spout. A masticating juicer slowly grinds the food and squeezes the juice from it, then filters it through the mesh screen and out the spout. Centrifugal juicers are speedy, often cost less, and lose a lot of important nutrients. While masticating juicers are much more time consuming, they keep most of your nutrients intact.
So what's this mean for you? Well of course the obvious, you're going to get much more nutrients from one glass of juice. Not to mention the juice tastes absolutely great, and that's because it's so rich in nutrients. The slower processing does not speed up the oxidation of the juice like the faster spinning action does. Again, less oxidation means more nutrients. It also means your juice will last much longer. Juice that comes out of a centrifugal juicer has to be drank right away to get it's full benefits. While juice that comes from a masticating juicer can often last up to 72 hours when stored properly in the refrigerator.
So yes, they can be more time consuming. However, you can make juice for a few days in advance with one juicing session. Also, they tend to be much more efficient, extracting more juice from each fruit or vegetable than a centrifugal. With the cost of produce, getting the most from your fresh fruits and vegetables is important, and can really save a lot of money.
Another very important benefit, they handle leafy greens and grasses much better. Those types of produce are loaded with rich nutrients, which is why so many people like to juice them. If you plan on juicing kale, spinach, wheatgrass, or anything else similar, you should look into the masticating juicer. You can also look into wheatgrass juicers, but often times they have trouble with other types of softer produce.
Summary- Masticating vs. Centrifugal
It really boils down to your needs. You may want to go with a centrifugal juice if you don't mind drinking your juice pretty quickly, your short on time when making it, or you're on a limited budget. Centrifugal juicers aren't bad, they just generally aren't as good, though the technology is getting better and better.
If you want your juice to last longer and be as rich and full in nutrients and taste as possible, a masticating juicer is probably right for you. But they do take more time for one session of juicing. As I said though, you can make up for it by juicing for a few days in one session because the juice will last! Don't forget they're generally more efficient and handle leafy greens and grasses better. Hope this helped you choose a winner in the masticating vs. centrifugal battle, and happy juicing!

Believe it or not, I actually own a centrifugal juicer because I like drinking my juice down fast, and I'm on a limited budget (aren't we all these days).
