Hunting is an extremely popular sport and pastime activity all over North America. There is nothing quite like being out in nature and feeling the thrill and the challenge of tracking and then killing game. Of course, safety while hunting should be a paramount concern, and the responsible hunter will make sure that he stores his ammunition in a safe manner. To safely store ammunition is the difference between an enjoyable and successful day out and a catastrophic day marked by injury and potentially death. There are a couple of ways to safely store ammunition when hunting.
Metal Ammunition Cans
The first way involves the use of metal ammunition cans. Metal ammunition cans are ideal when hunting since they are big enough to contain a lot of ammunition all in one, easily accessible area. These cans are characterized by a tight-locking feature that really gives hunters peace of mind: It is virtually impossible for the ammunition to spill out in the event that this can gets knocked over or even stepped on.
In order to make it to a hunting area, one will have to typically drive a ways out into the wilderness. When traveling in a car to a hunting area, there are a lot of easy storage place right within the vehicle that will make storing metal ammunition cans a cinch. Similarly, if one is using a motorcycle to get to a hunting area, it will usually feature either a storage area right under the seat or on the side that makes for an ideal location to place metal ammunition cans.
How to Deal With Moisture
Some hunters in North America are likely not familiar with the use of moisture absorption packets to help them safely store ammunition when hunting, but these are an amazing help. Saving these small keep-fresh packets can mean the difference between ammunition that is dry and fresh and ammunition that is wet and useless. These keep-fresh packets are what one normally discovers within new shoes or even pill bottles. A lot of ordinary people just throw them in the garbage, in part due to their fear of the accompanying warning that urges people to keep them out of the reach of kids. However, the smart hunter can save these keep-fresh packets and find a more effective way to store their ammunition safely. They can be placed inside any metal ammunition can, which works to keep the ammunition dry and fresh.
The hunter also requires a place in which to safely store his ammunition after he has returned home from hunting and when he is not actively using his bullets. For blatant safety reasons, one obviously cannot just keep ammunition lying around in the house; what would happen if, for instance, small children would happen upon this ammunition?
Selecting a Gun Safe
The use of a gun safe essentially solves this problem for any hunter. It offers a secure, safe place to keep one’s ammunition, which will work to create peace of mind for anybody worried about ammunition being misused. Any good gun safe will be fireproof, though it must be noted that not all gun safes are created equally because there is quite a price range with these safes. Some can cost as little as just $65 while others can cost as much as $1000. Some also are better for larger ammunition while others are capable of storing smaller ammunition. Personal circumstances will dictate which type of gun safe works best for a hunter.
Storing your ammunition safely and properly should never be compromised on. This goes for situations when one is hunting as well as just storing your ammunition at home. When you look at the statistics, it's scary just how many accidental gun deaths stem from the improper storing of ammunition. By planning ahead and storing your ammunition safely you can enjoy hunting and avoid tragic accidents.
