In this ever modern day and age, there are many good teachers around as well as average teachers. So how do you define good teachers? But more specifically how do you define the duties of a good business teacher? The duties of a good business teacher ultimately come down to four things, namely how good he is at preparing the materials, at delivering the instructions, at examining the students and finally at addressing the student’s concerns.
First of all, the duties of a good business teacher are at preparing the materials before he starts the business class. Because of the dynamics of the business subject, a teacher has to conduct his own research through the various platforms available out there for example, magazines, journals and articles, all of which available offline or online from a trusted source. It should then be compressed and related to the topic that the teacher is currently teaching to his students to stay relevant. The course material will also need to be tailored to the appropriate learning level for easy consumption. Secondly, a good business teacher depends on how good he is at delivering the instructions to his group of students. Since in a group of students you normally will have a mix batch of slow and fast learners as well as those with different learning styles and there are those who respond better to visual, auditory or kinesthetic. When you have such a diverse group of students, that’s where the challenge is. A good teacher has to accommodate to these diverse group by mixing his style of teaching so that everybody can absorb the topic well. Plus, the theory that is being taught in class has to be related to what is happening in the business world currently as to stay relevant. Knowing what’s trending at the moment does help as well.
Thirdly, the duties of a good business teacher are at assessing and examining the students for evaluation purpose. Not only limited to exams, but also to group assignments, presentations, teamwork as well as projects. Have the students submit their assignments or reports and later appoint a spokesperson or collectively present their findings to the entire classroom. These sorts of interactions between students will surely generate healthier discussions as well as deeper understanding of the topics at hand. Finally, the duties of a good business teacher are at how well he is at addressing the student’s concerns particularly on difficult or new topics. When a student feels lost or is getting stuck at certain topics, the teacher needs to find the best way to overcome this by giving real-life examples as well as case studies from happenings worldwide. Understanding the student’s problems and coming out with a creative solution goes a long way at gaining the respect of the student as well as getting the student to have a more critical thinking to any problem they might face later on in their life.
With social media garnering more attention and students going for online medium for quick fix to any questions they might have does have its pros and cons. That’s where the duties of a good business teacher are to differentiate the fact from the fiction, the harsh realities of life as well as pure blatant misinformation that they might be getting. With the information overload we have at the moment, an expert help or a guiding hand is really required to be given to the students to clarify any misconceptions.
