Taking exams or writing an essay is a tough thing to go through. While I have not met many students who would say that they enjoy sitting for exams or writing essays but there is such minority that exists (I know you are laughing deep down).

As crazy as this sounds but when you are hell bent on achieving your educational pursuits, you don’t fear the obstacles. For example, in order to earn a degree, you will have to survive the curse of coursework writing. So we inquired few academics and they stated what students get wrong in exams/coursework.

  1. The fear and the subsequent habit to delay

The academics are of the opinion that students get overwhelmed just at the thought of undergoing a coursework ordeal. When you are already overwhelmed, it gets hard for you to even begin writing. Next thing you know, procrastination takes over. And even if you had the slightest will to do anything, it is destroyed.

That blank page which stares back at you is your biggest enemy when you haven’t written anything down from that study table of yours. There is no workaround to it, just that you should not panic and commence managing your time so you can get things going for you instead of sitting around.

  1. Not researching well enough

The next thing that falls in line naturally is the lack of analysis on the students' part. You just cannot prepare for exams or write essays with your analysis of the subject. Students tend to do parrot learn everything but that does not help. Exams/coursework demands critical assessment of the subject.

What, you thought they were going to award you the degree for nothing? You should be able to show your command on the subject. That is what the faculty member or your reader is seeking when you hand in your assessment. There is no better way to engage the person reading your work than to show him your prowess of the subject at hand.

The rule of thumb while writing should be that whoever your reader is, he is a well-informed reader. This approach will help you conduct writing in a thorough manner and you will not take it lightly or casually. Secondly, always make sure you go through the marking scheme of your department.

When you go through it, you will notice words/phrases like "originality of interpretation" and "critical thought" which further establishes the fact what your teacher is looking for you. The aforesaid is unachievable without analysis.

In conclusion

These are some of the mistakes that students make and are common. To those reading this, if you could start reflecting over your mistakes outlined here, you are outlook towards appearing for exams and attempting coursework would get better.
