Are you going to take your IELTS exam soon and worried about the writing task? Do not worry. Many students like you face a similar dilemma. This article here will share some tips on how to sail through the writing task of IELTS.
Hope these IELTS writing tips given below help you in scoring well:
- Whenever you start analyzing the task try to take notes. This will help you in framing your thoughts.
2.Answers do not come easily to the mind unless you know the subject. It is important to plan the answers.
-
Whenever you segregate your information in paragraphs try to be clear. The first paragraph should link with the second one. Ideas should be presented clearly in the paragraphs.
-
Do not use the question in the answers. Many students tend to copy the entire question in their answers. You will lose the word limit by doing so.
-
Manage time well. Task 2 takes up more time than time 1.
-
Do not keep re framing your answers.
-
Stick to the topic.
-
Task 1- 20 minutes only; Task 2- 40 minutes only
-
You will have to write at least 150 words for task 1 and 250 words for task 2. If you stay below this limit, you will lose marks.
-
When practicing your writing pay heed to how long a 150-word paragraph appears in your handwriting. You won’t get time to count the words so this assumption will help.
-
Do not answer in bullets ever in IELTS. Always write in full.
-
Punctuation, spelling, and grammar are important, so pay attention to how you write the sentences.
-
Avoid slang and short cut words in your writing.
-
Do not use informal language
-
IELTS model answers are just to give you the gist of what is expected. Do not by heart these answers and write them in the exam. IELTS examiner will mark you down or make your answer invalid.
-
Always make time to go through the answer you wrote.
-
Try to write as clearly as possible. Do no scribble. The examiner needs to read and understand what you wrote.
-
Make your answer more presentable by using synonyms.
-
When starting to write a new paragraph leave ample space so that it looks like the next paragraph and not the next sentence on the same paragraph.
-
You can write either in pen or pencil.
-
Whenever you need to provide an overview after the introduction in your essay look at the charts or diagrams given.
-
Use expressive language like" wide range of", "slightly taller" etc
-
Conclusions are important to give a definite ending.
-
Do no list out small details but rather sum up the whole event when doing descriptions.
-
You have to accurately present your idea. Do not start writing ‘in favor ‘of and then drift towards ‘against’ unless you are comparing and contrasting.
Hope this detailed list of IELTS writing tips comes in handy when you start preparing for IELTS. Remember to time the paper.
