At one point or another, we’ve all put off housework due to busy working weeks or simply because we can’t be bothered. Having said that, by replacing standard domestic features and furniture with glass designs, you can reduce the amount of time you spend on keeping your home in tip-top condition.

The kitchen.

Our favourite switch is glass worktops and splashbacks. Despite their popularity, marble and wooden worktops aren’t always the best option for a busy space like the kitchen. For one, both materials are prone to scratching and staining. Furthermore, wooden worktops need continuous care to prevent them from being damaged.

A glass worktop, on the other hand, can be wiped down in the case of any liquid spillage. There’s no required aftercare, and glass is often indestructible when up against other materials.

In most domestic kitchens, the walls are exposed to all types of splashes and stains. Often, a solution to fix this is to tile the strip of wall that peeks over the top of the worktops. However, the problem is that condensation is known to break down the filler that holds the tiles together. Conveniently, glass splashbacks can be wiped down when splashing and condensation does appear.

The staircase.

Moving on to aesthetic as opposed to convenience, staircases are most certainly an area of the house that is avoided when it comes to maintenance or is just outright ignored. Nevertheless, a lot of wear and tear is acquired over time and if you’re a proud homeowner, you won’t be a fan of the stripped paint, greasy handprints, and splintered wood look.

With a glass staircase, you can remove all the pesky traits that commonly come with a staircase in one fell swoop. The only upkeep being to polish and remove fingerprints from the surface. What’s more, you can reduce this further by adding a metal or wooden handrail to the staircase.

The garden.

Reduce the level of handywork to be done in your garden by replacing the wooden decking with glass decking. By doing this, there’s no more worries about topping up the paint, sealing any cracks and splinters, or restoration. Glass decking has you covered in all areas, requiring little to no upkeep as it can withstand the natural elements.

The bathroom.

Lastly, the bathroom is constantly in need of regular maintenance due to the abundance of messy liquids being stored in this room. Therefore, we recommend opting for glass units and shelving that can hold products such as body wash, shampoo, and toothpaste. Choosing to have glass over the traditional linen baskets and wooden shelves enables you to wipe down and clean storage quickly and easily. On top of this, it reduces the amount of mould that grows in damp spaces like a bathroom.

Surprisingly to most, there’s an abundance of household features that can be replaced with glass alternatives. Convenience is key in your home and with smart swaps you’ll cut down the time it takes to clean your house and will be able to spend more time relaxing at the end of a busy day.
