England put gambles of top-seed place at Euro 2020 in danger after surprise defeat against the Czech Republic

England has put their chance of securing a top-seed place at next summer’s European Championships in jeopardy by suffering the shock defeat against the Czech Republic. Football fans around the world can buy England vs Croatia Tickets online to enjoy its outstanding performances.

Although England should qualify in the top spot from Group A for the finals, the slip-up in Prague could still have serious consequences for manager Gareth Southgate and his team.

They are no longer guaranteed one of the six top seedings if they win all of their remaining games and could even face the prospect of being placed in the same group as world champions France or Belgium, who are one of the tournament's favorites.

England’s nightmare scenario would be to miss out on a top seeding and be drawn from pot two in a group with either France or Belgium and Portugal, who could find themselves in pot three if they fail to beat Ukraine on Monday night.

The six top-seed places go to the countries that finish top of their qualifying groups with the best records. Belgium, Italy, and Spain all have 100 percent records, while Ukraine has not lost a game but host Portugal next.

The final two Euro 2020 seeds are likely to be contested by England, who face Bulgaria in Sofia on Monday night, Holland or Germany and Turkey or France.

Should teams finish top of their groups with identical records then the final top seeds will be determined by goal difference. England currently has a plus 14 goal difference, ahead of France (plus 13), Turkey (plus five), Holland (plus 11) and Germany (plus 11).

After traveling to Bulgaria, England complete their qualifying next month with a home game against Montenegro and a trip to Kosovo, who are still competing for second place in Group A and scored three goals against Southgate’s side at Southampton’s St Mary’s Stadium

Failure to win all of their remaining three games would almost certainly result in England missing out on one of the six top seeds when the finals draw is made on November 30, but three victories may still not be enough.

The situation will further infuriate Southgate, who only last month warned of the need for his team to finish qualifying with a 100 percent record.

Writing in the matchday programmed ahead of last month’s game against Bulgaria at Wembley, Southgate said: "The seeding for Euro 2020 will be decided by your record in the qualifying campaign, so every game is important. If you look at the other groups, there are some teams with a 100 percent record, but we really have to take it a step at a time."
