Lowering our environmental impact is a huge concern, especially when it comes to finding clean, renewable, and eco-friendly energy sources to warm our homes at an affordable price. But is it possible to check off all those requirements in a home fuel? The short answer: yes! Bioheat® fuel is a major player in immediately reducing harmful carbon emissions into the environment and in addition to being widely available, is also compatible in all existing home heating oil systems.
How Biodiesel Fuels Improve Sustainability Today
Bioheat® fuel is a blend of heating oil and renewable biodiesel. Biodiesel is made from a variety of natural materials or agricultural by-products, like inedible soybean oil, used cooking oil, and other materials that would otherwise be wasted.
Biodiesel fuels like Bioheat® fuel are affordable, alternative energy options that produce significantly fewer emissions and offer homes and businesses a solution to contribute to carbon reduction right now.
Bioheat® Fuel Will Continue to Reduce Carbon Emissions
Bioheat® fuel is currently offered in three tiers based on how much biodiesel is in the fuel:
-
A blend of 5% biodiesel (B5) is referred to as Bioheat® fuel
-
Blends ranging from 6% to 20% biodiesel (B6–B20) are referred to as Bioheat Plus® fuel
-
Blends with more than 20% biodiesel (B21+) are referred to as Bioheat Super Plus® fuel
The higher the content of biodiesel, the fewer carbon emissions the fuel produces. With current blends of Bioheat® fuel ranging from 5% biodiesel to 20% biodiesel, Bioheat® fuel options are already better for the environment. The industry is rolling out higher Bioheat® fuel blends at a strategic rate to ensure safe operation and equipment compatibility.
The Future of Bioheat® Fuel & the Low-Carbon Movement
The best news of all is that Bioheat® fuel can continually lower its carbon content over time with the incorporation of increased blend percentages of biodiesel. As equipment manufacturers and fuel production establishments receive higher demand from consumers to support increased blends of biodiesel, there’s nothing stopping the NY heating fuels industry from reaching B100 Bioheat® fuel down the line.
Bioheat® fuel is widely available and ready to help reduce carbon emissions across NY. Learn more when you read our blog!
