MAGA Republicans are Hypocrites, Mark Jarmuth (950 words); I've published with The Hill, Washington Monthly, Inside Sources and Liberal Opinion Week; jarmuth@hotmail.com; 425-556-0916

I expose MAGA hypocrisy on everything from abortion, the ten commandments and the deficit to poverty, gun control and immigration.

I've heard you MAGAs. Unlike me-first Americans, you aren't driven by the desire for prosperity and personal recognition. What motivates you are your deeply held beliefs and patriotic fervor, or so you say. Well, I'm not convinced. I don't believe your convictions are as strong as you claim. I think you often say one thing, do another and act like hypocrites.

You religious MAGAs are a case in point. Many of you are hypocrites.

Your goal as Evangelicals, you claim, is to promote biblical ideals. But you support Donald Trump and his conduct has been about as unbiblical as it can get. He's abused, betrayed, cheated, coerced, deceived, harassed and threatened “friends,” acquaintances, business cronies, supporters, adversaries, relatives, mistresses, and wives.

I know. You Christians don't like being called hypocrites. Here's my advice, MAGAs. Find a leader who keeps at least one of the Ten Commandments before you have them displayed in public school classrooms across the US.

The same goes for "law and order" MAGAs. Like your religious allies, many of you are hypocrites. Take Mike Johnson, for instance.

When Johnson spoke at the RNC, he put himself in contention for the hypocrite-of-the-year award. In his speech, he said his party stood for the rule of law, knowing it would nominate a convicted felon and adjudicated sex offender for president.

Your position on immigration, MAGAs, is really hypocritical. You whine about the raft of unlawful crossings along the southern US border. But your allies in Congress killed a bipartisan border security bill last May that would have all but ended illegal immigration in our country.

Ditto for you MAGAs who shill for the gun lobby in Congress. Many of you are hypocrites as well. Take Mike Johnson (once again) for example.

In 2023, Johnson offered prayer for the victims of a mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine. But he's opposed legislation that would keep weapons like the one used in Lewiston out of the hands of trigger-happy, male sociopaths.

Where Elon Musk stands is no secret. He's a diehard MAGA and he too is a hypocrite. Last July, Musk showed his displeasure with the size of the deficit by posting “34 trillion” on X. The same month, however, Musk endorsed Trump in the 2024 race and he grew the debt by $8.4 trillion or nearly 50% in just four years as president, mortgaging our children's economic future and moving the US well down the path to financial insolvency.

Your position on abortion, MAGAs, is also hypocritical. You say the procedure should be banned because it’s inhumane. But your choice for president, if elected, would end all US aid to Ukraine and subject its people to unimaginable acts of inhumanity as Russian troops took over the country.

I'm not finished, MAGAs. I have more examples of your hypocrisy. Take your 2025 GOP platform, for instance. In it, you say you’ll "ensure equal treatment for all" as the ruling party. Hogwash! You MAGAs won't promote greater equality – not between the rich and poor – quite the contrary. After you get control of government, your allies in Congress will help Trump extend his top-down tax plan. The rich will get a lot richer. Economic inequality will reach levels not seen in the US since the early 1930s and you MAGAs will look like hypocrites.

The Bible says Christians should care for the poor. But you MAGAs want Trump in the White House and as president he won’t aid those in need; he’ll make their lives miserable.

Trump will line deep pockets by extending his tax plan after taking office. He'll drain the labor market of cash and it will collapse. The economy will hemorrhage jobs ala 2020. The unemployment rate will soar and millions of low-income Americans will be without work and unable to provide for themselves and their families.

Trump, of course, won’t just pass top-down tax cuts. He’ll find other ways to exploit the poor, as you MAGAs should know. Yet even the Christians among you support him, ignore what the Bible says about helping those in need and act like hypocrites.

My last example, MAGAs, involves your slogan - the one you swiped from Ronald Reagan. The real problem, however, isn't your claim you'll make America great. What’s hypocritical is how you say you'll do so: by helping Trump win the White House.

Apparently, you MAGAs haven't heard. Trump has been president and not only did he fail to make America great. He wreaked havoc while in office. After his top-down tax plan took effect, the economy lost 2.7 million jobs. He mushroomed the deficit and oversaw the worst financial crisis in 91 years. Trump also botched our nation's response to the pandemic and caused countless deaths, making it appear as if the US had a second rate (or even Third World) health care system.

Indeed, nothing good, much less great, occurred on his watch – quite the opposite. For most Americans, living conditions steadily deteriorated when he served and if Trump wins, it will be more of the same. He'll reward his mega-donors with top-down programs and across-the-board tax cuts. The markets will crash and riots will break out across the country. Trump will declare Marshall law and at that point, MAGAs, everyone will know the truth: your claim you'll make America great is a sham.

You won't help our country achieve greatness by getting Trump elected president; you'll do the opposite. Rather than make America, you'll ensure its demise. The discrepancy between your words and actions will be glaring. You'll look like hypocrites and your claim you love our country and have strong convictions as people of faith will seem contrived and not be taken seriously.
