Viagra’s Unexpected Side Effect

The lives of many unhappy men and their partners were changed for the better in the 1990s when a drug known as ‘Viagra’ was synthesized and patented by the Pfizer drug company. Viagra was followed by two more impotence drugs - Cialis and Levitra - that worked in similar ways and have become almost as popular.
And it is now becoming clear that Viagra may have some surprising and beneficial side effects.
Viagra was developed as a drug that would help the user develop and maintain an erection by encouraging blood flow to the penis. Since its conception and release to the public in 1996, Viagra has been the victim of some bad press. Having made a huge impact of the lives of millions and taken the world by storm, Viagra’s side effects have made equally big news! Nevertheless, Viagra quickly became a household name for all the right reasons and has proven to be a safe and effective drug that has brought joy to the lives of millions of men and their partners.
Viagra was intended to help men who were physically unable to have sexual intercourse, but recent evidence suggest that the drug may also encourage the psychological inclination towards intercourse. This evidence seems to indicate that using Viagra can encourage feelings of affection and desire and actually put a man ‘in the mood’ for love making!
Simply put, this evidence indicates that Viagra not only physically enables a man to have sexual intercourse, it also makes him more inclined to want to do so. It appears that having taken Viagra makes the mind of the user more susceptible to erotic stimuli, which in turn aids the body in preparing for - and having - sexual intercourse.
I think it’s fair to say that millions of women around the world - and the Pfizer drug company - must be delighted by this news!
At this early stage of the research, it appears that using Viagra is increasing the levels of the oxytocin hormone in the user’s brain. This hormone is associated with increased feelings of affection and love and with a desire for intimacy, and high levels of this hormone is known to lead to feelings of sexual arousal.
The oxytocin hormone is found in both men and women, and is known to be secreted in the brain by feelings of emotional warmth and intimacy; for example, when cuddling with a loved one. Oxytocin is also released during sexual arousal and, in a larger quantity, during orgasm. (It is for this reason that women in the final stages of pregnancy are encouraged to have sex, as the release of this hormone can encourage the start of labor and bring on the first contractions.)
The real benefit of this new found effect of using Viagra is not simply that sex is made easier, it is that the feelings of security and warmth and intimacy that sex can bring are accentuated. Impotence can be a psychologically and emotionally damaging experience, and many couples find it negatively effects all aspects of their relationship. Viagra has long been considered a wonder drug by these sufferers, but this new evidence suggest the drug may help in the repair of their other problems and worries too.
This news is certainly good news for impotent men and their loving partners everywhere, and may also lead to future medical discoveries that change the lives of even more people around the world.
